Thank you to everyone who emailed Mark Nolan about the Un-American comment. I did not see the report myself, but was emailed by someone who did and inturn asked me to start the email campaign. I did so with only the information given to me in the email and because this is a topic near and dear to me, I did. So, please accept my apologies if any of you feel mislead. Mark Nolan, the person who made the Un-American comment, responded and for those of you who didn't receive a copy, here it is:

To all...

Let me first say... Wow!!!

In fifteen years of broadcasting, I've never said anything that got this much response let alone being the subject of a web site chatroom.

Let me also say that no malice of any sort was meant toward anyone with a peanut allergy, parent there of, or those who may be trying to ban peanut butter or peanut products in the school.

Your stories all sound familiar as I've known those with the same allergy and do know how dangerous it is. I was NOT making light of the danger or this affliction.

For those of you in the viewing area who heard it first hand, I hope you heard that my comment was not that, trying to ban peanut butter was "un-American" but that being "with out" (in gest) was... Here's why...

Those of you in the viewing area will also know that for about the last 10 years here at the station, it has been a running joke that I eat at least one peanut butter and jelly sandwich per day. Though it is a joke, it's not too far from the truth... That was the point of the comment.

Those of you not in the viewing area, who don't know of this history and only got posts with "out of context" references to my comments, please feel free post this note in it's entirety on the site. And, please accept it as my apology for the mis-understanding.

God bless you and your children.

meadow, I was just coming to post the same response I received from Mark Nolan. I'm not clear how I feel about his response at this time (I'm very tired and need an antihistamine which I don't have until tomorrow).
I appreciate that he took the time to respond, he definitely gets kudos for that.
Best wishes!

meadow,
I hope you don't feel that you mislead anyone. You provided information that simply allowed all of us to be informed. I think we all know that we have choices when we are informed:
* Check it out for ourselves
* Ignore it
* Respond using the information we accepted
So.... What's my point? Thanks for sharing the information. I would much prefer having information and deciding for myself about what I want to do with that information than not being informed.
Besides, as it turns out, educating the people at the TV station is a good thing!
Thanks for the information (After reading the info I chose not to write to the weather man - I had a choice)
