pI am a mom of two PA boys. One was extremely ill from asthma and other complications from allergies. I had to fly US Air to Denver to visit a special hospital. I had to go through requesting a peanut free flight and a peanut free lunch for my son. They were pretty good when it came to passing out peanuts, they did pretzels instead...however, when lunch time came, they hand my son a peanut butter sandwich. I grabbed it from him immediately and stayed as calm as I could explaining to the stewardess the dangers of what just occurred. My son had to go without lunch as the adult lunch was terrible. All I can say is it is a darn good thing he didn't touch the peanut butter or we would have had to make an emergency landing and I could have lost my son from the ignorance of the airline. I complained to the airline when I arrived home from Denver, but did not get a satisfactory apology or reply. /p

pI just got off the phone with Alaska Airlines Reservations. We will be flying from CA to WA Memorial Day weekend. The flight doesn't include a meal or a snack so I don't have to worry there... it's just making sure they don't hand out packets of peanuts to everyone! The woman I spoke to was very helpful and nice but did not have any awareness of this issue and so I did a guicky educate and told her that my son could have a fatal reaction from the smell on the plane. She was amazed! She admitted she didn't know the protocol and put me on hold to find out what to do. When she came back, she informed me that she had spoken to her supervisor. Her supervisor put in a request to not have peanuts loaded onto the flights we are taking. Of course, that's not garunteed to happen, and I will need to check at the gate when we get to the airport. I'm hoping that if I am sweet and helpful with the airline staff, they will respond likewise. /p
pI think it's Clorox that has those new disinfectant wipes... I am planning on bringing a box with me and wiping down our seats and trays to ensure his safety./p
pThanks for letting go on and on and on... if you have any other ideas... please let me know!/p

pI have had NUMEROUS problems with airlines. Fortunately, I have not suffered permanent harm but I always have an Epi-Pen on hand. The only reaction I've had to products served on board, is on a December 1999 USAir flight that was supposed to be peanut free. They served a MM mix with the lunch, and I started to react. I took 50mg Benadryl and my Albuterol inhaler (I also have asthma). Note this was only from the dust being in the air./p
pSee my comments about specific carriers on the general airlines threads, and feel free to contact me about my experience on USAir when I asked not to board. I have the flight attendants' name, my letter I sent to the CEO, and an apology from USAir. It's all documented./p
pPost when the segment will air, and thank you for doing this!!/p
