We are traveling to Mexico and staying at an all inclusive resort This summer with our daughter who is allergic to peanuts I am nervous about the recent recalls on products containing cumin and would appreciate any advice for our upcoming vacation

Thank you for taking the time to answer. Yes we have translation cads made for. When we traveled to punta Cana last year they took very good care of her. The resort we are staying at in Mexico is owned by the same company as punta Cana. They told us we would receive a letter in spanish explaining her allergy and that they are use to dealing with food allergies. The recent cumin recall is scaring me however. I was wondering if restaurants like moes and Jose tejas are off limits to us now. Tx. Lisa

Food safety rules and allergy awareness change as you cross borders, you may not be able to depend on the label to tell the full story. That said, stick with minimally processed foods. Also, there are peanuts or peanut oil in many Mexican Recipes. You may need a fluent speaker if you are trying to communicate your daughter's needs. We live in Texas, where Tex-Mex reigns and have learned that with few exceptions we get our Tex-Mex fix on date night or make homemade. Our local Skeeters has made a commitment to be as peanut free as possible and to offer full disclosure, she does eat there.

In mexican foods it very common the satay sauce, it's a sauce with peanuts, be careful with that. I didn't know and none tell me and the last year I had a reaction because of that. The best thing is to not have any kind of sauce.
