Up date
District School Doc phoned Littl V's pediatrician. The out come:
The following recommendations.
1 Eliminate classroom activities involving peanuts
2 Eliminate general classroom snacks {if provided by teacher or school} consisting of peanuts {plenty of other substitutions available.}
3 Child should eat at a different table at lunch than other childern who may have peanuts in their lunchbox.Teacher should take every reasonable precaution to minimize derict contact between these children.
4 After lunch childerin who may have eaten peanuts, should be cleaned up as well as any exposed surfaces.
5 Because the precautions ststed above can never guarantee no possible exposure; it is highly recommended that the teachers, aides and school nurses taking care of this child
should be trained in recognizing allergic reactions and how to appropriately respond to those systoms.
I was also told by the school I have to give 24hr notice before having lunch with DD

Are they saying that if you or your DH want to come to the school to eat lunch w/ your DD that you must give them 24 hour notice?
Or are they saying that if you want little V to eat a school lunch, that they need 24 hours notice (presumably so that they have enough time to prepare a safe one)?

?-1 Yes the school says I have to give them 24hr notice to have lunch with DD.
?-2 DD will not be eating any school lunch,
I will provide all her food.
Also I will not sign the liabilty wavier resloving all liabilty from the school.
The school has yet to sign forms stating
who has been trained and by who.

Does the school require this with all parents? (give 24 hour advance notice to attend school and eat w/ their child)
If not, I'd just ignore it. (And I'd probably show up more , unannounced.)

Gail
That question I don't know the answer.
However I do know at my oldest DD school
you go to the front office and sign in and then go to the cafeteria and for her to arrive.

This is the same procedure at our school-- all non-staff going anywhere in the school must sign in at the front office. Same for everyone.
Can't imagine that little v's school requires 24 hour notice from all visitors...

Just an update
The school nurse asked the allergiest if
wearing gloves in the centers was ok.
The allergiest said "If that is what the parents want"
We have sent a letter to the school stating (NO) we the parents do not want the gloves put on her.
That would effect her trying to be normal and her touch and feel.

Ok update
Got a call from the ADA lady to day.
I had to cancel the appt for fri because
the baysitters child has pink eye.I think we all know what that means.
So any way,I ask the ADA lady for a stand alone 504 for food allergies she states I can't get one I ready have a 504 I said I know that Little v has a 504 for speech and language I am asking for a 504 for food allergies only.
She says they don't do a seperate 504 for food allergies.
At Little v,s 4 year ck up her doc and I were talking about the fact that the school want's
her to go a full day. Her doctor says she does not need a full day because she has made a major improvment since she had her tonsils and adnoids out in Nov.2002
Hang in ther everyone I getting to the point.
So I brought this up to the ADAlady and ask for Little V to be retested. She stated that I canot make that request that the IEP team has to. Helllloooo am I not part of the TEAM?
As well as her doctor. She goes on to state that they will not retest her again until she startes school.
I have been asking since Jan for all those that have been trained in use of EPI-pen,AKA (ECSCL) as well as the letter home to the parents to be returned with a signater.Which we have all signed off on.I have also asked for bdates of the children from the teacher as well as nominating the school for the FREE school program and they have not done that as well.
As of yet she has no Emeregency plan
The next meeting is AUG 11
I have had enough of this (I can't I can't)
from this school. I know we can have her re tested and I know we can have a stand alone 504 for food allergies.
DH and my self are very up set,This school (IMHO) does not care about this child not one bit.
I have spent many nights up worrying about dd being put in harms way. Many nights I cry for her safety and education. Many nights I have thrown up over the stress. It has to stop NOW
DH is disgusted!
