Snythia,
Just saw your post from July in this topic seeking the link to the article I mentioned re:hand sanitizers (such as Purell) are not effective in removing peanut proteins (compared to wipes and soap/water).
Here it is:

Sorry M2B, The document is not official yet.
It still has nuses/school comittee/lawyers to pass through first (they estimate 4-5 months). This is still a draft, but it shows the district's intent. I should hope that any modifications that each of these chanels would impose upon it (the doc), should uphold this intent IMHO
I'm sure when completed and "offical", it will be available on the web. If I were a school, just starting to have to deal with this 'allergy thing', and looking for some guidelines to follow, this would be a good place to start. At least when the final 'rules and regulations' come down the line, they'll have few changes to comply. (again, IMHO).

Good morning everyone!!
Have not had a lot of time on the board lately...
All kids are in school....Party time!!!!!
just kidding, anyway on ds school news letter for the month of Aug under Snacks
Please note.....We have a allergy alert!!!!
Please do not send peanut butter or peanuts of any kind or form with your child to school.I appreciate your help and cooperation with this very important matter/please see me if you have a question or concern.
DS does not have a peanut allergy...after talking with his allergiest about whether or not he is allowed to eat pbj or any peanuts/or there products in the school environment, his allergiest said NO.
The allergiest stated that ds should avoid peanuts and there products because.....
The twins are inseperable and he could contaminate her by accident (makes sense).

indicating the use of artificial sweeteners or not? Or just meaning "no refined sugar"? I mean is sugar allowed in your coffee? What exactly does "sugar free campus" mean?

Hi Synthia. Hope you are well. You went through this whole OHI v. 504 Designation issue, right. What did you end up getting?
Rhonda To answer you ?
Alot of understanding people as well as people willing to go the xtra mile to save a childs life.Trust, compassion, acknowlegement that a policy needs to be put into place for food allergic children, and most of all being part of the team!Knowing at the end of all this WE ALL can work togeather to save a childs life!
The Food allergy school emergency plane I did not write up!!
The district 504 person asked me at our last meeting if I would like a copy of the ruff draft,I jumped for joy and saied yes!!
This draft (to my understanding will be given to all parents of food allergic children that enter in to our school district.)
It has gone to the nurses, and then off to the SD committee, and then the lawyers.
I have been asked to give imput, which I am doing.
I will try to keep everyone up dated.

Lets start with The Policy
I was informed that the policy well be ready by the end of the year 2004. Ok.

I requsted a aide for Little V in Aug 12,2004
Was granted a aide to watch her during lunch and snack.
Aug-Nov...I have been asking and being told the aide will be here soon (keep in mind I was having lunch with Little V every day during this time.}
Nov 1 Mon was told the aide is on duty as of today.Several days before this I spoke to a Key person and let them know that DH had to miss work as a result of me having to be there at school during lunch to keep a eye on Little V.I had another child sick at home Strep.
On a positive note..
Halloween could have been a disaster, however it was not!
I was informed a week or two before, that the class rotation for crafts was including food. 2 of the 4 crafts I knew about, but two I was not!I cought wind that the craft projets were going to consist of Peanut butter.
I brought this up to the principal and he went to talk to the head of K and found out that they infact were going to use peanut butter in a craft. He told them no.
In Little V's class rotation for crafts No food was used!
Thank you Principal!!!
We have a parent conference on 11/11/04

Hi Synthia.
Have you met with the aid personally yet? What do you think? Does he/she *get it*?
How does little V feel about the aid? (Bet she's missing mommy at lunch though.)
