1) themom; I hope you will reconsider having a 504 for your son. The whole point of it is to give your son legal protection if his rights are violated. Whatever the school is willing to do to keep your son safe should be in a 504 document.

"2) MommaBear is trying to help. She has a different style than many who post. I (of all people ) do know that it can be unsettling at times.
However, I am certain that she means only the best and she does bring up an awful lot of good points!!!

I'd wish themom luck, but I rather wish her wit, perserveration, and a calm heart.
that and a clear view of the Big Picture.

My cub is in a specialized instruction program at *a* school in our area. Not *the* school assigned to our address. Anywhooooooooo, just some background. He has an IEP which outlines this accommodation. He also now has OHI (other health impairment) for several other needs, including "Peanut Allergy and Asthma". We are working on another designation under his IEP, possibly, "Orthopedic Impairment."
I mean, as I didn't need other parents putting their seal of approval on his educational programming, I don't remember his OHI depending on input from anyuone except those designated to give it.
As with other matters requiring a degree of privacy, qualified assessment and intervention, etc...... and just frankly *my own family's business* , I wouldn't expect it to.
Trying to imagine how I would feel if another parent decided to show up at my cubs IEP meetings and give their two cents. I mean, I just don't think *it happens*.
His OHI, by the way, as I understand it, is a designation under his IEP. I could be wrong, and maybe I just don't get it.

No it isnt, and of course I will be there tonight. I was just so frustrated after reading the posts MommaBear left that I wanted to just say SCREW IT! I didnt ask for this!, but I set out to right the wrong I helped in creating and I am going to.
FACT IS...MommaBear doesnt know me! MommaBear doesnt know this community!
MommaBear really doent know anything about whats going on here, only what you (themom) and I have written here so instead of SCREW IT! I say.... well you get my point! So as far as I am concerned, I am not longer responding to anything she posts, all she is trying to do is give me a hard time and why? because she is having fun, (IMHO) and I am not going to let her do it.
but lets get off that subject....
I am so sorry your son sat alone today at lunch. When I told my daughter that the little boy that was allergic to peanuts sat all alone today, that nobody sat with him at lunch, she said "I'll sit with him momma, I dont like pb anymore, I'll be friends with him!" unfortunately she is in kindergarten and not in 1st grade. I know she would sit with him, and make friends with him, I also think that all it would take is ONE child to do just that and more would befriend him also. Maybe when she starts going full days on the 27th.
Good luck tonight, I will be there.
and to everybody else, those who like my plan and those who dont, I just need to clarify... I am not writing "THE PLAN" the school is "GOING" to use. I am just offering a suggestion and I wanted it to be well thought out and well written, nothing nothing more, nothing less.

Lisa,
As a person who knows MB fairly well, let me tell you that her brain is going 1,000 mph all the time! She is highly intelligent (IMO) and a very unique individual. She is a very good-natured person is isn't trying to give you a difficult time. She is an RN and definitely knows "too much" information. She is often misunderstood. She may be a walking dictionary but she is a very nice person. She does mean well.
Good luck tonight and let us know how it goes.

I don't venture far from home, unless within close proximity to the confines of a travel trailer. (side note: *my personal experience* has been just like the ads. love it when that happens.

Nope, cant say that I have, but with all the warmth and friendliness that you have shown me, cant say that I would either.
I am just glad I "met" other people here before I "met" you.

Turlisa,
I have been following the threads. I thank you for taking the time to try and understand what having a child with PA is like.
I wished you lived in my neighborhood and your daughter attend our school!
Your concern and commitment for themom and her child are to be commended. I truly believe that your kind heart and your PA knowledge, directly or indirectly, will save a life one day.
Thank you for supporting all PA children.
Sue in Sunny Arizona
