I just wanted to say THANK YOU! This past Friday we received our signed 504 plan for our DS. Yes, it happened the day after first grade ended for our son, but it will be in place to start the new school year in the fall.

I know that in some respects, we are just at the beginning of all of this, but I never would have been able to get this 504 for my son without many of you here. Your responding to my inquiries, and support, on and off the boards, kept me going, when I know I would have given up.

So, I wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you that gave me advice, gave me opinions, sympathized with me, posed questions, showed me examples, provided tons of information, answered my questions and shared your stories.

Never doubt the contribution you make. I wouldn't have even known what a 504 plan was without all of you, and I know it will make a difference in our lives. And most importantly, you all have given me an important tool in helping me to give my son a safer learning environment, and the freedom that comes with that.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

Thanks guys, really -- thank you. We still have work to do, but that is the fine tuning that will happen when the year starts and we see all the gaps that we didn't anticipate. I think I am really happy that I'm not trying to convince DH we need the 504 anymore. It was a long year, with what seemed like many instances giving us big neon signs that said,'GET A 504!' And it never ceases to amaze me how many things they have to put food with at schools! Just ridiculous. At least now, we have something we can work with, work with the Principal on -- and also have the teacher on board (Though we aren't allowed to know yet, the Principal said she has already talked to who will be DS's teacher for next year, who said she will meet with us before school starts --- this all means that the Principal has already started getting it together with respect to some of our 504 stuff. Certainly didn't happen like that at the beginning of this last year!).
I guess in the end, it makes me hopeful. Which is nice. I think I'll still be nervous about lunch -- but I think I'll be that way forever!
