Texas SB221 has another chance - please help!!!

To everyone interested in the fate of SB 221 authored by Sen. Zaffirini during the 79th Regular Session:

Senator Zaffirini has added SB 221 from the 79th Regular Session to SB 2 (relating to public education and public school finance matters; making an appropriation; imposing criminal penalties) which passed the Senate Education Committee on June 23 of this first called special session. Though the education reform and finance bills being deliberated are complicated and controversial, Senator Zaffirini plans to pursue SB 221 as an amendment to the bills throughout the process.

Putting a call in to your state senator, and especially your state representative, to do what is in his or her power to support this portion of education reform would be helpful. The best time to do that (or make a follow up call to one you make now) will be when the conference committee is appointed for SB 2. That will likely happen next week, but it is as yet unclear. If HB 2 ends up being the vehicle for public education reform, we will likely amend that bill and then your call regarding that bill to influence the bill and conference deliberations will be helpful.

Thank you for your support! Let me know if you have any questions. Cecile

I am new to all of this. What is this bill about? Did it pass? I would like to make deadly food allergies a disability and make all Texas public schools peanut/nut free. My son can breathe a peanut and his throat can close.

What is the current status? I'm interested in signing up for this bill.
