Trader Joe's in VA and NJ carries the soy-free version of sunbutter. It's smooth, but has some oil that settles on top. I mix the oil in. I haven't had any x-contamination reactions, so I'm trusting the Sunbutter people, despite my severe soy allergy.

Same here. In a conversation with the marketing director at Sunbutter, he stated to me that they sell their product to Trader Joe's who then puts their own Trader Joe private label on it. There is no mention on the label that the product is manufactured by "Sunbutter".
Here is what the label says:
The name of the product is "Trader Joe's Sunflower Seed Butter" There is a circled "U" next to the word "sunflower". Wondering what that indicates...
After a box of information called "Nutrition Facts" is this:
"Ingredients: Sunflower seeds, evaporated cane juice, salt.
Dist. & sold exclusively by Trader Joe's, Monrovia, ca 91016
Allergy Information: Made in a facility that processes soy.
Please refrigerate after opening. "
Follow is additional information in a different typeface that states:
" Trader Joe's Sunflower Seed Butter uses specifically selected toasted sunflower seeds that can be used as a spread for toast, muffins, bagels and other breakfast goodies. Trader Joe's Sunflower Seed Butter contains no hydrogenated oils."
There's a stamped "sell by" date.
No where on this (Trader Joe's) label does it say "nut free" or "peanut free". I have purchased Sunbutter (from their website) also, but don't currently have a jar of it in my house to check. I believe Sunbutter's label actually stated that it is "peanut free".

correct - there is no "peanut or nut free" on the label.
The container is exactly the same as Sunbutter...lid is even yellow!
I called TJs yesterday after I got home and they plan to relabel it as "peanut/tree nut free" like they starting doing with the soy butter (IM Healthy is the provider)

The circled U indicates it's kosher:
