Hi! I'm the mom of a 2 year old with severe peanut allergies. At one, he tested a 5 on the RAST test. We have not had him tested again yet. I, as every parent of an allergic child, am scared to death of what I feed him. Yet, I want to try to add variety into his diet. I have some odd food questions that I have not talked to my allergist about yet and wondered if anyone else had some answers.
My newest questions are about honey and worscheshire sauce. Has anyone fed either of these items to their child and are they OK for peanut allergic children?

Welcome! I have a 3 year old and have not fed him Worschestire (sp?) because there is anchovy in it. Fish is a high allergy food so I am avoiding it until he is older. I have given him honey and he has no problem with that. I haven't heard any concerns about honey and PA. Hope that helps!
What sort of foods does he eat now?
Is he the correct weight for his height? is he generaly healthy apart from his peanut allergy?
Are peanuts his only allergy? can he eat other legumes or tree nuts with our reaction?
Has he tried egg yet?
give a little more info on the sort of foods you would like to try .

The worchestershire sauce has no nutritional value and is highly salty.
I never use it. I don't trust things that have lots of "junk" added to it.
Thank you so much for your replies. I'm glad to hear he can have honey, since my husband and I eat it alot. To my knowledge, he has no other allergies other than peanuts. I am really happy I found this site. It is so nice to talk with people who really know the stresses we all live with on a day to day basis. Thanks again!
I always thought that it was not good to give a child (< 3 yo) honey because it was highly allergenic (not that you get allergies to honey but that it was full of 'antigens' so the body developed a big response to it). Any pediatricians on board to comment?
I have several recipes that call for Worcestershire sauce and my 22 month old pa dd eats them with no problem. I haven't given her the straight stuff yet, but I'm sure she'll eventually have it as that's what dh puts on all his meat.

I'm not a pediatrician, but I have read a lot of books about food allergies (as have a lot of us, of course!), and I've never seen any types of warnings about honey being highly allergenic.
However, honey can contain botulism spores, which can cause serious illness if it is given to children under the age of one. (After that point, apparently the gut is able to handle the spores, and there is no danger.)

Hi there!! This is my very 1st time on this site, and my 3 year old daughter has peanut allergy too. I guess I have never given it a thought, but I HAVE given Megan worshesire sauce and she has been just fine iwth it. We use it alot with grilling meats and she has never had a reaction to it. However, I'd check it out with a professional. Wouldn't want my opinion to harm your child. It is so very scary!!! View Quote:Originally posted by KCMAC:
