What does a total Ige of 156 have to do with a peanut Ige of 1.82 and a egg white Ige of 3.17. Does anyone know?

I raised another post for you that kind of explains total IgE vs specific IgE but basicslly the total IgE is a number the represents all the specific IgE numbers added up. So.....since your IgE to peanut and egg equals about 5 that means you have may have some of unknown allergies. IgE is an indicator of how allergic you but it is not an exact science.

Allison,
Thanks so much for answering my post.My almost 4 year old sons total Ige is 156, but he has only two known allergies and has never had a reaction from them and tested negative to everything else so I am kind of startled to see his Ige be what it is, should this also include dustmites etc.Does anyone know the Total Ige ranges for age.

There is no relationship between age and IgE levels. Normal is less than 24 but many people without allergies have elevated total IgE. Was your ds skin tested for pa and egg? Maybe he will be one of the lucky ones. Also an allergy to dust mites will definitely elevate the total IgE.

Our dd's tests came back all negative for everything she was tested for. Her total IgE was more than 2 SD's above for her age range. So for now we still treat her as allergic and plan to follow up with blood tests and skin tests at a later date. Since we have made the house a PN/TN/Soy free place and eliminated all of DH and my fragranced soaps and shampoos (kids have always had fragrance free stuff for their own bathroom) all of the mystery hive cases have disappeared, so my feeling is the tests were flawed.
