Soy Nut Butter

I was elated a couple of months ago when our local grocery store had a demo booth for a new product (or at least new to me) that was Soy butter. It advertised boldy "NO PEANUTS" and my husband and son, who are not allowed to eat peanut butter because of my PA, both said it was great...very similar to peanut butter. I tried a little and then a little more and sure enough my mouth swelled up. Benadryl did the trick. Now I am wondering, am I also allergic to SOY (I will go to the dermatologist to check that out), or does even this contain traces of peanuts? In any case, some might want to check it out...they may like it and not react to it.

IM Healthy is truly nut free. I call them every time I order a case to make sure, and I just got one a week or so ago. Every time they have assured me that they make no peanut or tree nut products. Maybe the utensil was contaminated?

btw-my PA child has never had a reaction, except to walnuts.

Oh Joyce I feel your pain! I was elated when I discovered this product not too long ago. I FINALLY had found something that I could eat that was close enough to peanut butter to not miss it anymore. As the summer wore on, my eczema got SO bad I wasn't even letting dh touch me anymore.
I just had allergy tests done last week....sure enough, I'm allergic to soy. I've cut it out of my diet now (which is NOT easy! I thought avoiding peanuts for ds was hard!!!) and I'm almost 100% improved.

As a followup, I did go to the allergist to get retested for soy allergies...not in the least according to the test. He suggested that I bring some in and let him prepare it so as to get a more accurate test. At this point I am going to let it go, as it is not that important to me; so it remains a mystery, I guess.

I have a sample of that exact kind of soynut butter that I'm scared to try. Every kind I've tried gives me a reaction. I think it's more of a conditioned response, though. It's so similar to peanut butter that I think I react because my body thinks it should...sounds crazy, I know, but that's my take on it.
