I haven't taken my pna DS out to restaurants all that often but we made a quick trip to TN (Caryville) over the weekend and decided to go to the Shoney's there. I gave the waitress the chef's card and explained to her and asked to talk to the chef. She comes back to the table and said the manager said the ONLY thing they will say is ok is the fruit. I asked to talk to the manager.

When the manager comes over I ask if they can just clean a pan and cook JUST a hamburger patty, no bun, no sides, just a patty. She tells me they have NO pans in their restaurant!!!!! I've worked in the restaurant business for years and NEVER have I heard of one that didn't have pans!!!!

Obviously they were just too lazy to check ingredients and didn't want the hassle. I guess I was just a little shocked since this was my first experience running into any issues! I'm sure it won't be my last but I'm considering writing a letter...I just couldn't believe it!

***ETA*** I did send them an email, will update if I hear anything back from them.

MommyOfTwo, so sorry to hear about your experience. I do hope you write them that letter and indicate the disappointment of your son, and the loss of many potential customers with food allergies.

I wouldn't want to use a pan in a restaurant...they often use the with peanut oil to cook foods in and I wouldn't trust them anyway.

I did get an email back from their customer service this morning -
"Thank you so much for taking the time to share this valuable information with our offices today. I want to personally apologize for your unpleasant encounter and will make sure the owner/operator of the Shoney's in Caryville, TN receives this information immediately. Someone will be in touch with you about your visit as soon as they review this email."
So we will see what follows from the actual restaurant owner/operator.
