We've been offered the opportunity to have our daughter's school purchase cupcakes which will be the only food offered at school birthday parties...but based on what I saw the last time I looked in that section in the market, finding uncontaminated cupcakes could be awfully difficult. Perhaps we'll have to offer to bake them, but it would be helpful if anyone has any leads as far as brand name cupcakes available in New Jersey area stores which they believe to be truly safe from peanut contamination. Thanks!

pHi Kurt, have you checked Hostess cupcakes? I buy the low fat versions (chocolate) and also the low fat twinkies. I believe the regular version of the cupcake is ok too.Good Luck./p
pKurt I posted some information under the Hostess line of food alerts.. Check with them as I did but they have told me that all of the Hostess Ho Ho's are mad in peanut and tree nut free plants. They also were very helpful on some of their other products and how to read there codes. Take care..../p
pThank you both very much! The school has tried so hard to meet our needs that I really want to say 'Yes' to any new ideas they come up with, and hopefully this'll help. Just in case, though, we could use alternatives, so anyone reading this with additional ideas, please do post./p

I am also looking for safe birthday treats--br /
I will be putting in a hostess call about their mini-donuts. Also, are there any safe muffins out there?br /

pHi Carrie,/p
pI have a PA 4-yr. old daughter, and I've been buying the Betty Crocker Double Chocolate Muffin Mix you make yourself. So far, we've had no problems with that line of baking products. But, as always, double check the labels every time you buy in case they've added anything new to their line./p
pHope this helps!br /

pHi!/p
pI too will endorse the Betty Crocker brands. They have a "may contain" statement on each package making it easier to sift through the information. Their customer service staff is also very informed and has answered my questions willingly - as opposed to some manufacturers who prefer to say nothing to. We bake the cupcakes in large quantities and freeze them unfrosted. They freeze and thaw wonderfully./p

pThe only place in my area of New Jersey is a local bakery. This would deffinately get expensive. /p
