Question of the Week: Answered!
Every week, PeanutAllergy.com is answering one of the questions posted in our community.
Our Answer:
We’re glad you found our website! We have a great community full of members who are always willing to give support and tips. You are not alone!
For starters, it’s important that you be especially careful when you buy food from grocery stores and/or restaurants. It is best to double-check food items and to ask about dishes to ensure they do not contain anything that may cause a reaction. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
It may help to check out this list of foods to avoid. Also be careful with products that were manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts and/or tree nuts. If you haven’t already, talk to your doctor about whether you need to carry an epinephrine auto-injector in case of emergency.
As for snacks, we’ve got quite a few recipes! You can check out our peanut-free snack recipes here. Try incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet as snacks. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, try our dessert recipes here.
We asked our Facebook fans for their suggestions, and you can read their responses here.

My son is Peanut//TreeNut/Sunflower allergic. His allergist told us that sunflower oil in chips, pretzels, nachos is not an issue due to how its processed. That being said, thats what our doctor said for our son. I would consult with your doctor to get the most information as possible about your allergy.

I also have a Class 2 peanut allergy. I also am allergic to peas, eggs and all berries. I take my peanut allergy seriously. It was diagnosed when I was 29 and I am 61 now. I am very conservative about what I eat. I cook all my own food. My treats are fruits.
Class 2 allergy is not something to take lightly. You could have a bad reaction anytime you get into peanuts.
Be vigilant about what you eat. Make sure you have an epi-pen at all times.
And, most of all, our society is too involved in junk food, food treats etc. Your body does not need all that junk at all. You will be much healthier without it.
