A friend suggested that perhaps we could also speak to Trader Joe's corporate (626-599-3700), since they carry Rudi's under their own label, as well as Rudis's label --Maybe they could help influence Rudi's decision. The quantities they purchase would make a much bigger impact.

Thank you for your recent inquiry into Rudi's Organic Bakery(r) about
the date our products are made. All Rudi's products, except our Spelt
Tortillas, are sealed with a plastic kwik lock tab. Each tab has a 4
digit lot code. The first digit refers to the shift (1, 2 or 3). The
next three digits refer to the Julian date on which the product was
made, where 001 would be January first and 365 would be December 31. In
the year 2007 the Julian date for April 9th is 099.
We ship our breads frozen. Freezing is part of Rudi's Organic Bakery
patented process to delay staling that guarantees product satisfaction
above and beyond other organic breads. For ordering purposes between
now and July 2007, if the lot code ends in 300 to 365 the product was
made in 2006 in a facility with no peanuts or tree nuts. Products with
a lot code ending in 001 to 098 were also made in a facility with no
peanuts or tree nuts.
All of our products are made on the same lines. Once an allergen like
tree nuts is introduced into a facility traces amounts of that allergen
can find their way into all products.
Our top priority at Rudi's Organic Bakery(r) is to ensure that we always
provide you with the highest-quality organic products possible. We
believe that organic farming practices minimize agriculture's impact on
the earth, working to conserve our precious resources and reduce soil,
air and water pollution. Our organic breads are free of harmful
pesticides, artificial ingredients or preservatives and trans fat
resulting in breads that are not only great tasting but safe, healthy
and wholesome.
Your interest is of utmost importance to us, and we take your comments
and questions seriously. Thank you again for taking the time to contact
us.

So....what y'all doing about bread these days???? I just hung up the phone with Rudi's and the CS Rep Tim's response to cleaning the lines was "We do the best we can, but we can't guarantee there won't be traces of walnuts in all of the breads". Sigh.
Now, as far as I know, there is not another bread out there that's not on shared lines with ds' allergens of milk, eggs, peanuts/nuts. I don't have time for the bread machine at the moment...

I am curious as to what bread others are eating, as I am allergic to walnuts and won't take the chance.I currently am still eating the Rudy's I froze.I had just found the Rudy's thanks to this board and had emailed them to thank them for the excellent product right after I tried it, which is when they announced the nut addition.
