Please be careful at all restaurants. We went to Max's (not Max's Opera) in San Francisco. I asked the waitress if she could double check if they used peanut oil as my son was going to have a cheeseburger and fries. I almost didn't ask as I had read the menu and didn't see anything with peanuts and usually fries are fried in canola or vegetable oil. She came back and said there is an item on the menu that is peanut crusted chicken that they deep fry so the oil is not safe. We were so lucky that the chef didn't just say no peanut oil but really thought about it and that our waitress was so diligent! I have to say my comfort level was not so tight as my son is 17 and he usually is very diligent about his allergy. He did not ask that night and I did. So it was a big lesson for him also that he HAS to ask!!!
Be safe

I found these helpful cards just for this purpose, and added measure that no one forgets.
I would encourage a server to take Supermarket guru allergy buddy one of these info cards and speak with the manager and kitchen staff so that there is no confusion, our Food allergy Buddy card is as follows,
said person has food allergies:
"please avoid using cashews, peanuts, peanut oil, mixed nuts, peanut butter, ground nuts, walnuts, all tree nuts , pesto, nut oils and all shellfish."
You can customize each card, it also include an area for table #.
And it is FREE.
