I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Pumpkin Seeds? We carved our pumpkin and I wanted to toast the seeds for my boys. But I was unsure if there was any connection with the seeds and peanut allergy. Any insite would be greatly apprecitated. Thank You Susan

Our pa and tna 7 year old does eat roasted pumpkin seeds around Halloween time. I'm always a bit nervous about it - as I fear she's at a high risk of developing a seed allergy due to her other allergies. However, she's been fine so far, fortunately. We try to keep her seed intake to a minimum, in general, but she gets really excited about the pumpkin seeds at Halloween - so I don't want to restrict her from yet one more Halloween experience, since she has no history of reacting to them.
FAAN just had a lead article in their newsletter about seed allergies. The issue of pa and seed allergy was discussed. Apparently at this time it is unknown as to why some pa people are also allergic to seeds and others are not. Apparently some of the proteins in peanuts and seeds are very similar.
Good luck in making your decision. I hope all works out very well and you and your family have a safe and happpy Halloween. Miriam

Our daughter loves home roasted Pumpkin seeds. They give her no problems, and she is extremely allergic to peanuts. Be careful of packaged or bought versions due to cross contamination.
