Hello, everyone! I am 50 years old, been severely allergic since birth. Almost died many times from anaphylaxis reactions. I take it in stride now, I know exactly what to do and how to survive. I know how to manage the social and emotional reactions that I feel and know how to cope with the negative reactions of other people. For example, other people's comments used to make me really angry. Now I have more compassion for their ignorance.

It took many years to learn how to manage the whole situation. I did my dissertation on people who have eczema, allergies and/or asthma from childhood into adulthood. One conclusion was that it is common to take many years to figure out how to live well despite this condition.

I am a psychotherapist in San Francisco and help people who are struggling with social and/or emotional issues related to allergies and other medical conditions. I believe the best way is to get an "orientation" when you are first diagnosed, but of course, that rarely happens. Most people come to me after they have been struggling for a long time without an overall perspective.

Anyway, I would love to know other people in San Francisco. See my website www.drshelleydiamond.com or reply here...

it's wonderful that you can help others as they struggle with medical issues that cause anxiety and other concerns.

Hello,
I wish we had a psychiatrist here in town that specialized in this. I have 3 children, and they all have peanut/tree nut allergies. I worry about my oldest and his anxiety. I really believe this is an issue with alot of children and adults. Thanks for posting and welcome!
