A friend told me yesterday her daughter, who is on the same basketball team as my dc, was given some pretzels right before basketball practice. To her surprise they tasted like peanut butter. This really upset/concerned her as my friend's child knows my dd is airborne/casual contact allergic. The mom had her wash her hands several times and rinse her mouth. She wanted to warn me about them but didn't know the brand name. Anyone know anything about this new type of pretzel?

These have been around my area for a long time. This is what gave my dd her first serious peanut reaction, four years ago. Trader Joe's has been selling them for years, and I am pretty sure that "Combos" has a peanut butter filled variety, too. These things are scary because they do look exactly like regular pretzel nuggets but are actually filled with peanut butter.
Take care, Miriam

I just checked Combos website, (I got a little worried because my ds just had them two days ago) and they dont make any pb filled pretzels or crackers. All their products are filled with cheeses.

When Combos first came out, they definitely had a pb variety (in addition to cheese). I don't know if they still produce that flavor, though.

Hi
Utz's makes a pretzel nugget filled with peanut butter. Maybe this was it?

I've seen some peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets in Costco. I can't remember the brand name, though. I live in Florida.

I have heard of such a thing but I have never actually physically seen one. I'm going to say it's because I live in Canada. For example, I haven't seen peanut butter in tubes yet either but maybe I'm just not looking.
On the upside of your story, I think it was wonderful that the other parent told you and that she made her daughter wash her hands. Kudos to her for that at least.
Can you do a web search for something like peanut butter filled pretzels?
