These reactions can be the devil to treat. Just when you think it's over, Bam!, the hives, swelling, etc. reappear. Prednisone combats this.

With all 3 of mine having asthma (my PA son is the worst), we have prednisone in the fridge in case of emergency. When my 4 yo had a reaction to pistachios, his eye almost swelled shut. The allergist had him on 3 days of prednisone for the swelling (along with the benedryl). I hate having to give it to any of my boys but it does seem to work miracles - especially if the asthma is really bad. My husband and I both feel the same way - hate it but love it.
