Pittsburgh talk show

Today, on my way to and from a doctor's appointment, I listened to KDKA AM 1020 - talk radio. The host's last name escapes me, but I'll find out. His first name is Mike. The discussion was about a mother who has been protesting her son's school over something the school said they would provide for him, then didn't. He has Down's and requires a signing teacher among other things. Everyone is against this woman and her tactics - which I must agree, chaining herself to the flagpole, isn't exactly the way to go about this. Anyway, I felt the inevitable, and eventually it came - someone called in to say that THEIR kid's school has a peanut ban because of an allergic child. Well, the host immediately said THAT IS SO STUPID!! IF SOMEONE IS ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS, THEY SHOULDN'T EAT PEANUTS! BUT DON'T KEEP ME FROM EATING THEM! IF IT WAS MY KID'S SCHOOL, I'D SEND PEANUT BUTTER EVERY DAY! HOW STUPID!! I haven't quoted the man, but that is very close to the words he used. He definitely used the word 'stupid'. I immediately pulled my car off the road and tried to call him - no luck. It's probably for the best anyway because I was irate, and he is the type who basically cuts you off if you don't agree with him, so I probably wouldn't have accomplished much. I do intend to see if there is a website for the station!! AFTER I get my thoughts together and my anger in-check!

Tammy James,
You must be near Pittsburg. If so, KDKA has a website www.kdkaradio.com/main.shtml
Not that it's easy to change the opinion of obstinate idiots who don't 'get it', but there's a starting place.

Alex's mom:
Thanks. I found out the guy's full name - Mike Pintek. I searched for the KDKA site, but found so many I wasn't sure which one would lead me straight to him. Thanks for your input! I've had time to cool down, and I think I've figured out how to approach this guy. He has great opinions on things he's well-educated about, but, obviously, he's not anywhere near educated about PA, so his opinion was way off. Wish me luck!

The link you provided, Alex's mom, was perfect. Thanks again! I wrote to him last night; I assume he read it this morning. I missed the first 15 minutes of his show - I was talking with another parent at preschool, so I don't know if he mentioned the message or not. He probably didn't, and if he did, he probably just bashed me over it. I was polite and did my best to very briefly educate him that PA is more than "just don't eat peanuts!" I guess I'll never know if I did any good. Oh well... I think I did!!

Good for you, Tammy! I was thinking about your post all day yesterday. It really upset me that that man gave his ignorant and uneducated opinion on the air. I really hope your response to him did some good. Please let us know if you hear anything back from him. You should feel very proud of yourself right now!

Thanks!! I do feel proud of myself! I missed the first 15 minutes of the show yesterday - so if he said anything at all I didn't hear it. I also just sent him the link to the "great article in teacher's magazine". I really hope he'll check it out! It really is the best info I've read all in one place! Take care, Tam

Sorry if that last post was arrogant - I didn't mean it that way. I know no one took it that way, but I feel better apologizing about it. I just feel good knowing I didn't just let another person go on uneducated. Every little bit helps!
