Peanut signs in grocery stores!

pIn two of our local grocery stores I have seen signs that show a peanut with USA stamped across them. [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/mad.gif[/img] Then on the bottom it says Crack first before you pop. /p
pI almost $hit my pants when I saw this. They were in the soda and water isles./p
pThese are the little signs that they have sticking out like the little grocery coupons do. /p

I've got to admit I'm mildly confused as to what's wrong with a plastic grocery shelf tag with a picture of a peanut on it?
Granted, I'm a new poster here as I just came to read up on food allergies as it pertains to a friend of mine who can't have peanuts... but I'm not quite sure what the problem with this is.

It's a grocery store, right? Why should a peanut advertisement be a problem.
Outlawing peanuts or pictures of peanuts in a grocery store would be going way overboard. Pictures of peanuts in various forms can be a valueable asset to parents of the peanut allergic... it allows us to show our children what a peanut looks like without actually having a real peanut sitting in front of you.
My son, who is peanut allergic, is anaphylactic to shellfish, and severely allergic to tree nuts, coconut, sesame, egg white and oats, and has mild wheat and soy allergies. Yes, the thought of him coming into contact with some of those things terrifies the you know what out of me, but I don't try to protect him from the fact that other people eat them often, or that they even exist. I want him to be alert, cautious, but not absolutely terrified.

I didn't say anything was wrong with it. I was just shocked to see them! Thats all!!!
I have one child who has the peanut allergy and two children who don't.
I still have peanut butter in my home. My youngest is extremely picky and from time to time I still make him peanut butter sandwiches.
My pa child is not airborne allergic, I do not freak out about it I was just curious to see if anyone else has seen this. My son has been around peanutbutter sandwiches and crackers. He can smell peanutbutter when it is near.
I also don't need anyone to jump down my throat about keeping peanut butter in my home either. So don't bother. Sheesh!
