My son , age 7, is in second grade and we are working on developing a list like a 504 plan, ( because he has an IEP for another area)........my question is
He does not eat in the cafeteria on PBJ lunch day ( when served) and he does have a peanut free table......but as many always wonder .....and state it when they look at the inconvience of it all ( for them) why does he eat in there at all since children bring their own lunch and many times have a PBJ sandwich.......he has never had reactions since he was an infant...so we are lucky and each year when we review his plan my comfort zone gets re-checked.........
SO should he ever eat in the lunchroom? If we stayed away from PBJ ( in the world) he'd never be able to go outside. right? It is just a note of revisiting the issue of the world and how it will become more difficult leaving the safety of elementary and go to middle school when there are 7 classes to worry about.....
Just wanted others ideas.
Thanks Sue
I don't know....I think I would not want my ds eating in there at all if there was PBJ on any day. Luckily your ds has gone a long time without a reaction so I guess the comfort level would become less strict. It's hard for me to find a balance for my ds (he's in kindergarten this year) and doesn't eat lunch at school, so far I've become more nervous all around and more cautious even though his last reaction was over a year ago. As most of my posts on here go, I'm not much help. Hope it works out ok for you and your ds is comfortable and safe wherever he eats.
