My son has a peanut allergy but is not allergic to tree nuts. I know there is a high likely hood that the two could be cross contaminated. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried giving their PA child something like Nutella which is made with hazel nuts? Or do you really just avoid tree nuts all together like you do with peanuts? I am not sure what I want to do because his allergist told me to try him with tree nuts and tree nut products. But, should I really risk it? Has anyone out there ever tried it?

I think it depends on the severity of his reactions maybe. Like my son's was very big, so our allergist said for him to 'strictly' avoid treenuts. I asked about Nutella b/c my step daughters eat it all the time and he said not to give it to him.

I have given it to my son and we had no problems. His PA is pretty severe. Also, Blue Diamond Almond Butter is Peanut Free and safe to give. My son loves a ABJ sandwich.

Our doctor said no nuts, but I have continued to give him other nuts that I know he is not allergic to including Nutella. I know it is a risk and maybe that makes me a bad mom. I just don't want to keep him from something that I know he is not allergic to.
