Hi, I'm in CT too. There is one that meets in West Hartford every month. Contact Laura at DonAustin@attbi.com for more information. Laura said it was okay for you to e-mail her. Take care, Rhonda

Thanks Rhonda!! I will e-mail Laura to find out more info. How old is your PA child? Do you go to the meetings in West Hartford?

On Feb 7, 2003

I'm in CT. I have a 2yo PA child. I have not gone to the west hartford group because the traffic going that direction from me at that time is horrible. I hear it is good. What area of CT are you in?

On Feb 7, 2003

I'm about 1 1/2 hour from W.Hartford. I live in the Norwich area...you?? Do you have a son or daughter?

On Feb 7, 2003

I have a daughter. We are in Southbury.

I have a 2 year old PA son. I am living in Darien. New to the area and would be happy to meet new people. Lisa

I have no idea where Southbury or Darien is?? Do you guys know the Norwich area at all? Lisa- Do you ever go to an of those suuport groups in Hartford? I really would like to go to a meeting sometime. Right now, I'm in the big process of getting my son (and the school) ready for him to attend preschool this September. Scary!!

On Feb 7, 2003

Darien is next to Stamford, close to NY. I have not been to a meeting yet. I have heard of them, but don't know how far away it is from me either. & My husband's work schedule makes attending things difficult, as well.

I'm not in CT, but at a FAAN conference I met several people from a very active group in Fairfield (or possibly Bridgeport).

Southbury is off I84 near Newtown & Middlebury. About an Hour from Darien and probably an hour+ to Norwich (is that near Glastonbury??)

Hi Jodi2boys, Yes, the meetings are great; it’s worth the drive. We have folks drive from MA. Quite honestly, I never considered myself the support group kind of person. But a friend of mine in town asked me to go with her, and she said that I would like it. And I did! It’s very informational and it’s a way of networking within Connecticut. Our asthma and allergy specialists actually run the support group. We meet 1x per month. Every other month, we have formal speakers including doctors, nutritionists, counselors, daycare providers, FAAN representative, etc. The next meeting is on Monday, March 10th at 6:30 PM. The topic is school issues: ADA, Section 504 and IDEA. There will be two lawyers and me presenting that night. We’ll be discussing school issues, the law, obtaining disability designations, creating accommodation plans, etc. (I'm a teacher.) Take care, Rhonda

Rhonda-

Thanks for all the info. That would be a great meeting for me to attend seeing my son will be starting preschool this September and we have our 504 Plan meeting in May. If you could give me directions, where it is, etc. I would appreciate it VERY much! You can e-mail it to me: jdjpotts@peoplepc.com. Thanks again.

I would definitely recommend the West Hartford group too. I'm one of the people that drives from Massachusetts, but it's actually not that far from where I live -- if you're coming from southwestern CT it could be much farther than I have to drive! I plan to attend the Sec. 504 meeting. P.S. I grew up in Hamden (outside New Haven) and we're often there to visit my parents - who are, thankfully, very PA sensitive. They would probably even attend support group meetings if there are any in the greater New Haven area.

********************************** Take the South Entrance and go past parking area B and look on your right down in the corner. The Magnet School will be on the right. The building looks like an elementary school. You will need to "buzz" or "ring" yourself in. There is a button on the right hand side of the door. There is a security guard who will let you into the building, and you will have to sign in. He will tell you where to go, and the meeting will be downstairs. ******************************* Here is a link to the Magnet School's website with the same directions as well.

Can anyone tell me when the next meeting will be for the food allergy support group that meets in West Hartford Ct.?

On Sep 12, 2003

abers, I just noticed your last post - I grew up in Hamden, too! Did you go to HHS?

If anyone in the CT Support Group lives in the 5th District (represented by Rep. Nancy Johnson), then please see my post re:the town hall meeting tommorow morning, where my mom plans to directly appeal to Rep. Johnson to co-sponsor the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act.

If you can attend the meeting, so that you can also voice your support (either during the meeting, or perhaps after the meeting directly to the Congresswoman), it might really help our chances!!!
