Ontario Bill3 - petition please sign

Publish date:

Hi Everyone, My seven year old son has a peanut allergy. A friend of my brother-in-law has designed a website to support Bill3 in Ontario, Canada. It is a private members bill to protect all children in Ontario schools. Please support this bill by signing the online petition and sending the petition to your family and friends.

Thank you very much,

Thank you to those who have signed the petition. Thirteen people have added their names this afternoon! Even if this is an old cause for some of you, please sign the petition to acknowledge the creation of the www.bill3.com website by this caring dad of a peanut allergic child. It was just created November 1, 2004.

Have a great evening!

I received the following e-mail from Cindy at NASK regarding the on-line petition:-

Please check it out and pass it along:

P.S. If you prefer not to receive Bill 3 email updates, please let me know by email response to nask@sympatico.ca Cindy

Thank you to new NASK members Ken, Sue and three-year-old daughter Darriane Janzen for an excellent article in the October 28, 2004 St. Catharines Standard. Ken will collect on-line signatures in support of Bill 3 on his own website at www.bill3.com

A recent reply from Premier Dalton McGuinty to NASK member Sherri Raso states

I'm actually surprised by the lack of signatures, but then again, it is just new (the on-line petition I mean).

Here's hoping we can get a lot of participation.

I'm group e-mailing out over the next couple of days the comprehensive e-mail I received from NASK and hopefully even that might help a bit. I don't know.

What I had always understood though was that politicians did not take on-line petitions seriously. I'm not clear why or where I heard that even.

Denise, I'm going to re-raise this thread every day until I see as many signatures as I'm familiar with on the petition! LOL!

A lot of people have been working very hard on this Bill for quite some time (NASK and Anaphylaxis Canada and their membership are examples), as I'm sure members here have been as well.

But the on-line petition does make it so easy. Just click and sign - confirm via e-mail.

Denise, do you know if you're able to sign if you're American? I know people from other Provinces can.

I have a reason for asking. Although there is a difference because this is a political Bill.

When Nestle Canada made their decision that Smarties etc. would no longer be PA safe, PA.com members from around the world, even those who did not have "safe" Nestle products available to them (i.e., our American friends) rallied and e-mailed and wrote.

Certainly Canadians (and I still remember the afternoon the news broke and who broke it to me via e-mail) had a lot to do with the reversal of Nestle's decision, but I honestly believe that when Nestle Canada saw e-mails from different States in the U.S., Great Britain, Europe, etc., it must have had a huge impact on their decision as well.

Not saying that we Canadians couldn't have done it alone, but I know, for a fact, that we didn't.

So, as I say, although I recognize it as being a totally different thing, I'm wondering if politicians here in Ontario saw that people throughout the WORLD cared about what happens to our PA children in the school system here in Ontario, perhaps it *could* help?

Hi I checked with Ken Janzen about your important question. Here is his reply.

"Hey Denise,

Right now, we thought it would be best to show only Canadian signers.

Seeing as the names we collect need to be relevant to our Provincial

Dear Kinnergardner and Alternative to Mainstream,

We appreciate all the fantastic support you have given our petition! Here's hoping we get 1,000,000 signatures!

I am meeting with the NASK board in the coming week to see how we can further enhance the momentum we are gaining.

Thanks again!

Sincerely, Ken Janzen www.bill3.com

Denise, thank-you for the answer re American signatures on the petition.

Ken, welcome!

I have been in touch with Cindy and Renee from NASK for quite some time now (school issues with my PA son last year), and Cindy sends me each e-mail that she sends to NASK members/families. I've posted all of them here under the TAKE ACTION thread that katiee started when the Bill was a different number than it is now, for consistency sake.

I did do my own personal group e-mail out last week (the end of last week), which would have *hit* about 300 people, unfortunately though not all Canadians.

I keep going back to the petition to see who has signed and who hasn't that I "know".

Great stuff and certainly something that we at PA.com have been working on for quite some time.

Here is more information on bill 3 from my friend. It reads:

I met with Bob Delaney, MPP Mississauga West, last week. He is working with Dave Levac on passing Bill 3 designed to establish standard procedures for dealing with anaphylaxis in schools.

He asked for my help in getting signatures on petitions and mailing them to Dave Levac
