Can a PA/TNA allergic person touch the unbroken, shell of a nut?
My daughter was holding a walnut and now I'm questioning how I reacted.
Thanks

People can have reactions from the shells. In fact the shells can be more allergenic than the actual peanuts. You should wash her hands very thoroughly (I would probably do it for two or three minutes on my watch although that may be overkill).

My son picked up a tree nut once, as he didn't know what it was. We promptly washed his hands with soap and warm water. He has only tested positive to the Brazilnut (of the tree nuts) and I think it was an almond, but we don't take any chances with tree nuts.

Thanks for the responses. I have showed my daughter pictures and actual nuts in the store over and over again.
But this time a walnut and a hazelnut was displayed at school with a bunch of "fall" items. I think this threw her off and she picked it up and said "What is this?".
I recently found out she is does not have a tree nut allergy. But because I don't want anyone thinking it's Ok to give her ANY nuts I never officially told her school SO I'm REALLY dissapointed with her preschool.
Thanks again.

That is disappointing.
I have it in my dd's 504 plans that art activities and other lesson plans cannot contain nuts or peanuts.
What a shock it must have been for you to see this!
Take care,
