Hello all,

although I have been visiting this site for about two years, I have finally decided to register and start posting. I have found this site so very helpful and informative.

My name is Mark and I am the father to Jacob, age 5. My wife and I discovered that Jacob was allergic to peanuts when he was about 13 months old. We were having breakfast one morning and Jacob wanted a bite of my toast which of course had peanut butter on it. Within seconds his entire body was covered with hives, you could almost see them develop it happened so quickly. Not knowing anything of food allergies or anaphalaxis, we didn't call 911, we called his pediatrician. We found out how lifethreatening his reaction was when the first question the nurse asked was if Jacob was still breathing or having difficulty breathing. Jacob recovered fully and we have become as informed on food allergies (peanut specifically) as we can.

I just want to thank everyone on this site who has shared their insights, as I said before, I have lurked for a long time, gleaning as much information as I could and you have all been very helpful.

Hi, Welcome

My son is 5 as well, although we didn't find out about his allergies until he was 3. I had avoided nuts for him due to a cousin with nut allergies. I thought I was being over protective.
