Hi Sorry you have to join us and welcome. I found out about my daughters allergies when she was 13 months old. She has PA, TNA, MA, EA, rice allergies and other allergies. You can start with one of the books written on the subject. You can find a list of them here. They will educate you on things like cross contamination. Have you found an allergist yet? Check them out and make sure you find one you trust and feel good about. Your allergist can help you come up with an emergency action plan. Do you have epi pen jrs? It is the best thing to have if your child does have a severe reaction. You might want to put together a little pack for your child. My daughters had her epis, Benedryl, wipes, and a safe snack for her. You might also get your child a medic alert bracelet. It will speak for your child if you cannot. If you feel overwhelmed I would say that is normal. Someone you love has a condition that can be very dangerous. It will take time and you will have ups and downs, but it does eventually get better. Oh, the initial diagnosis is tough. I am so sorry to hear your news. We only have the peanut allergy and avoid tree nuts for x-contamination, and I remember how upsetting that news was. Don't worry! You will get through this and there is a lot of support available to you! There are support groups all over the U.S. and Canada. I encourage you to join one close by--there's a wealth of information and help there.

In addition to those support groups, there are people (food allergic individuals, families and support groups) you can connect with and learn from on the internet. There are a few blogs and other websites that you may find helpful.

Websites/Blogs for Recipes and Tips Kids With Food Allergies A non-profit membership support group. Lots of good info. An active bulletin board where you can exchange ideas with other parents in the same situation. Recipes. Food recommendations. You name it--you'll probably find it here. Especially helpful for multiple food allergies. A bulletin board/forum which has a very active membership. Many of the members are extremely knowledgeable and everyone is very willing to offer helpful tips and share their experiences. I learn something new there almost every day.

Allergy Moms A website/blog providing support and information to mothers (and caregivers) of food allergic children. Run by a mom of a child with multiple food allergies. This mom/blogger is also very active in the food allergy community. Her son is allergic to wheat, rye, barley, eggs, dairy, peanuts and tree nuts. Very knowledgeable! The 2nd blog I've listed for her has recipes which could be really handy. Another mom/blogger with a child who has multiple food allergies: "peanuts and tree nuts, wheat/gluten, dairy, eggs, beef, lamb, garlic, mustard, cantaloupe, and bananas." She focuses on recipes. A blog by a mother of a child with multiple food allergies. The mom's very active in the food allergy community.

Hope this info is helpful.

Take care, Jennifer B. Food Allergy Buzz
