New Poster from California

After lurking for several (8 months) I've finally summoned enough courage to post here. I've learned so much from this site, and I've found myself constantly here as I get ready to register my son for kindergarten this coming Monday. I am the mother of two allergic children. My son (5) has a RAST of greater than 6 for peanuts, and my daughter (2) has a RAST of 3 for peanuts, and a total IGE of 1,300. It's taken me so long to come to terms with the complexity of this allergy. Their allergist tells me that "they're IGE machines". My husband and I are coping very well, for the most part, but my DD's class 3 allergies to milk and eggs has severely limited our already limited menu. My DS is peanut/tree nut (and more) allergic, and is categorized as anaphylactic to peanuts, but his reactions haven't been as terrifying as some I've read about here. Anyway, I just thought it was time to show myself, and to thank you all for being here.

Sally, welcome aboard! There are plenty of people here from California, (unfortunately for me, not me), so use their expertise whenever you need.

Hi Sally, I'm from California, too. (Probably obvious - but someone once did ask me if I was really from California!) My 8 year old dd is pa and tna. I have a 2 1/2 year old whose allergy status is unknown. This board has been a wonderful place for me to get and receive support and information. I have made good friends here, too. Unfortunately, the board has taken a downward spiral of late. Hopefully, things will begin to look up at some point. The more civil and compassionate posters we have the better the board will be. So, a hearty welcome to you!!! Miriam

Its always great to have more posters on the boards who are here at these (strange) West Coast hours! (I'll look forward to reading some late-night posts from you as well!)

A very warm welcome to you! My daughter is nearly 4 and is also class 6. I will really enjoy learning from your experiences as you prepare your son for school, since this is such a big step for all of us!

Thank you for your welcomes! I'm just back from registering my DS for kindergarten, and I practically have the shakes. We'll be starting the IEP/504 process in the next week or so. I'll let you know how it goes.

Welcome Sally! I, too, lurk on these boards. I just don't have as much time as I would like to post (today being the exception). Thank God (and Chris ) for PA.com. I have learned much more from all of the posters here than from our allergist. Although, there are times when some posts go bad, it's still nice to know that there is a great support system out there. Again, welcome!
