Hi There
Welcome... I would clarify with your Dr. I have heard that if you have a tolerence for something you should keep it in your diet on a regualr basis sos that your ammune system consistantly recognizes it. and won't react.. I have the book the peanut allergy answer book. it is very helpful.
WELCOME!! The only thing I can really think of is to give them lots of reading material. The Peanut Allergy Answer Book by Dr. Michael Young is great because it is a really really easy read but has a ton of great info in it.
There seems to be a large amount of people out there that have to deal with this issue. Most of my family is understanding but there are a few members that just don't get it. But at the same time we don't really live near any family so we don't have to worry about it on a day-to-day basis.
Welcome!
Hi Heather, Welcome!
We all have them... Family memebers that don't get it.
I just try to be polite and not demanding. If I don't like the arrangements I don't vist there house. If they don't get it, They can't watch my son.. that is it. It gets easier to a certain extent when the get a bit older.
Welcome.
education is key when it comes to family members and people in general. I admit, even I was living in la la land about peanut allergies, before i had to deal with one of my own...people just do not know the lengths you have to go to protect your kids with this allergy.
Welcome to the board DianaMarie. I'm sorry to hear you're having such a difficult times with your family. I hope you get the support you need here as we all deal with people in our lives who don't "get it". They may be family, friends, co-workers etc.
WELCOME!! It seems that awareness and seriousness of pa is so much different with the older the generation! I was talking with someone the other day whose brother is "deathly" allergic to pn but yet he said as kids they used to chase him around the house with pb just to see his eyes and lips swell! YIKES!!
I'm sorry it doesn't sound like you have a lot of support. I hope you can get the support you need from this fine group of people here! WELCOME!
This place is so freaking awesome with wonderful people! I am really hoping to make some great friends! Sounds like this is a very supportive site. It's easy to use.....Thanks for the great messages I am looking forward to more....Yes it's hard to have the family understand that I am not lying or exagerrating. I once use to eat all I wanted. I develoved my allergies late in life. About my mid 20's. I can't wait to get started in here....
Welcome!
Wow! That is awful that you can't work because of it. What kind of Job did you have that would have pn/tree nuts around? Did you work in a restaurant?
I can't believe your own parents get annoyed with the allergies. That is sad.
My DS is PN allergic. We do go out to eat. BUt we tend to go to the same places that we trust.
Welcome
I like coming to this site because it gives me other people's views on how to deal with mis or non-informed people. It also informs me! I have a severe peanut and egg allergy with many many mild allergies.
I am a classic case of the seven year symptoms.. around 14 years old I started receiving allergy reactions every 7 years they have gotten progressivly worse... I'm hoping when I'm like 28... they'll disappear... grand wishing! I enjoy painting, photography, reading, hiking, and talking.
This site does have lots of great info. You are definitely not in this alone!
