MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS JUST COMFIRMED WITH SEVERE PEANUT ALLERGY. WE LIVE IN TENNESSEE AND I WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE IS FROM THE AREA? IF SO, DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE ON PA FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS? THIS IS SOMEWHAT FRIGHTENING AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO LEARN TO ASK EVERY TIME WE EAT ANYWHERE. SOMETIMES PEOPLE LOOK AT ME LIKE I'M CRAZY WHEN I ASK ABOUT NUTS IN THEIR FACILITIES.

Hi NuttyMom,
Welcome. Yes, it can be scary, but with education you will see peanut allergy can be manageable. Ask questions... read what people post.. or do searches. There is a lot of helpful info and support here

Welcome, Nuttymom.
I enjoyed reading about a new member from Tennessee because I've been frequently telling my husband maybe we should move there. Would love to get out of the overcrowded, tourist trap of the Poconos. Any suggestions on nice country-type places to live in TN?

Hello! We live in Tennessee! Where in Tennessee are you located? Our daughter is five and we have known about her allergy before she was a year old. She has heard us ask so many times " What type of oil do you use" That she now ask when we go to resturants. Yes,we get looked at funny from time to time, and we have had to turn and walk from many because they use peanut oil. But you know what is so great about Tennessee, nine times out of ten the manager will go to the kitchen and carry out a container of oil, and say " Would you like to read this, so you can make sure I am not missing something" Don't ever be shy about asking, you must remember that this is your childs life at risk. As with our daughter she has became cautious herself and it is a great thing to hear your child ask, and explain that she has a sever peanut allergy, and that she gets really sick and has to go to the hospital and have to have bunches of shots. Awarness is what will make them strong and knowing about the allergy will keep them safe.

WE ARE IN KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE. I ACTUALLY HAD A MANAGER OFFER TO MAKE HER A CUSTOM, NON-FRIED MEAL AT A RAFFERTY'S ONCE WHEN WE DISCOVERED THEY USE PEANUT OIL FOR THEIR FRYING. HOWEVER, WE AVOID THOSE PLACES ALTOGETHER NOW BECAUSE IT SIMPLY ISN'T WORTH THE RISK. WE HAVE FOUND OUTBACK AND CRACKER BARRELL TO BE OKAY LOCALLY, ALTHOUGH I'M SURE THERE ARE OTHERS THAT DON'T USE PEANUT OIL. OUR DAUGHTER JUST TURNED THREE AND SHE KNOWS TO ASK ABOUT IT AS WELL. SHE'S STARTING PRESCHOOL NEXT WEEK AND HAS A TEACHER WHO SEEMS TO BE VIGILANT. THE TEACHER HAS ASKED ALL OTHER PARENTS TO AVOID SENDING ANY NUT SNACKS OR PEANUT BUTTER AT ALL. DO YO HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT SAFE RESTAURANTS IN YOUR AREA?

NUTTYMOM & Ryan's mom,
I am also in TN. I live near the Memphis area, in a rural area that is great but
the schools are horrible in our county.
