Hi, I have been lurking through these posts for quite a while now. I have two peanut allergic children. I have learned a lot from this site, but don't like to read all of the negative comments. I am hesitant to say this, but it is how I feel about the matter. It seems as though new people are lashed out at for having a difference in opinions. It seems as though long time members can write what they please and it is alright, but a new member gets a bad name. I don't like all teachers being seen in a negative manner either because I am one. I ust want to say that I wish everyone could feel welcome. I guess this is why I have'nt posted before. On a positive note, keep up the good work. There are lots of great things about this site!!!

Hi Purple: sorry to hear that you have been affected by the negative posts. Hope you continue to lurk and/or post. I think an internet community is like any other one, sometimes things get a little out of whack. Eventually things will settle down and get back to normal.

Anyway, just wanted to respond to your intro. Also, I happen to have a much wider comfort zone than many of the folks on this board. I have posted about it often and I can tell you that I have NEVER been responded to rudely or negatively. (Of course there is always the occassional misunderstanding, etc).

Anyway even though my comfort level is different I get tons of useful info on this site, and also hope I can help provide others with help.

Welcome aboard. I say "aboard" since it is a reference to ships, waterfaring vessels, those crafts which carry folk through what is not their natural habitat. I get the feeling people DO truly try to help here and have a genuine concern for one another. There is a great passion for the issues at hand and a passion to help and offer support.

I couldn't help but notice your profession and the occasional reference, positive or negative on the site...................... I am a nurse, and I too, have seen references, both good and bad, to the healthcare professions. I have a pretty thick skin. I have never taken it personally. I know how much I put into what I do, and I feel the rewards far surpass anything negative I see here or anywhere. If I never got a positive comment again, I wouldn't seek other work. It helps make me a better mother, wife, and person. Lord knows I need it. It also keeps the water turned on.

Purple, welcome.

I also sorry that you have been experiencing this site with all the negativity right now. I have been visiting here for more than three years now and have found it to be invaluable. There are times when things degenerate, but for the most part it is a very supportive place. I do want to say that in all my time here I have never seen a profession in general put down. Some people have had bad experiences with doctors, teachers, retailers, and what not, but any complaints I have seen are about the specific situation, not about the whole profession. I hope that you hang around for a long time and find out for yourself that that is the case.

Purple, do you think that it is easier or more difficult when both of your children are PA, (assuming that you only have the two?) Also, is anyone else in your family anaphylatic?

It really does'nt make any difference. I guess maybe it does help in the sense that they both look out for each other. They are in 1st and 4th grade. They have wonderful teachers who go beyond the call of duty to make sure that they are safe. Thanks for the welcome!!

Hi purple. Welcome! I think I understand where you are coming from, with your concern that newbies might be targeted for having different opinions, but I think it might seem that way and that older members aren't because since they post so much, a lot of people know where they are coming from and/or have established relationships with them. I've been around awhile, and lurked for awhile even before that but I don't post a lot because of, well, a whole lot of reasons. But this site is invaluable. I hope that you continue to come here even when you don't feel like posting, because like you said, there's lots of great things about this site. And that recent nastiness, I have never, in all the time I've been here, seen it get quite this nasty. We have all come out to protect a new member who we felt was being treated very poorly. Oh, by the way, just wanted to put in my support for teachers. I think it is the most unappreciated profession. I have been blessed with an incredible teaching staff at my children's school and sing their praises daily to anyone who will listen! Thanks for the welcome. Dealing with a peanut allergy can be very stressful at times. It does help to read how other people deal with it.
