My 8 year old is peanut and tree nut (All nuts and contact sensitive). Last week the teacher sent out a letter talking about this little party they were going to have and she listed the menu and circled the snack that each parent was to bring. I of course was upset that she didnt get with me on this because I could have given her exact brand names and such on safe foods without changing her menu at all. Well, yesterday was the party. I checked all the items and 1/2 them contained or "may contain" nuts so yeah, I was worried and Upset. The teacher set these items aside and said something along the lines of her not serving any child those.
After school, dd had a chruch function and she rode with a friend (I hadnt seen her all day from drop off at school until after church). I picked her up from her friend's house and she was in bad shape; pale, glassed-over look in the eyes, slired speach, complaining that her stomach was really hurting her and she had a headach. She kept trying to lay down in the car. I got her home within 10 mins of picking her up and she immed. went to the bathroom and threw up. She came out and was looking perfectly fine; color back in her face, no glassy-look, no tummy pain or headach. She ate dinner within 15 mins of throwing up and has been just fine since.
My question is could this be a reaction from something she may have ingested at that party? The teacher did end up serving everything and kids were putting hands in each bag so I know cross contamination was going on. I emailed the teacher and she claims that dd said her tummy hurt before the party; dd said No Mommy, it was not hurting until after I ate at that party and then it started hurting a lot worse after school before church. So, why no one called me is deyond me! I am not too happy with the teacher not getting with me on food and I am not happy with her not calling me about dd's tummy hurting.

I think it is possible. I'm sorry this happened and happy she is feeling better. What is wrong with teachers anyway? I am sending my son to public school next year and I am already a basket case about it. UG

i have limited experience with actual reactions as my sons 1st was hives only and the second was ana, there has never been any gastro issues...
that being said, with my limited experience and knowledge, it sounds to me as though she may have either just eaten too much junk and needed to get it out of her system or that she ate something that just didnt sit well in her tummy... the only reason i say this is because of her immediatley feeling better after she threw up. i would tend to think with an allergic reaction that even after throwing up, symptoms would likely persist for awhile after or until medication (benedryl, epi, etc.) was administered. BUT again, i havent had experience with gastro reactions so its hard to say!

I am glad that she is doing good. I have an 8 year old boy with severe pa. About two years ago we goofed and he ate a small piece of peanut cake or pie. WIthin about 15 minutes he threw up everything that he had eaten. After this he felt much better but still looked kind of rough for about 35 minutes. So I would say that it could have been a reaction(I geuss it depends on how severe her allergy is) I would talk to the Princepal about pre planning parties in the future. Good Luck
I also think it could have been a reaction. When I first started noticing something was up, when ever I went into a road house style restaurant with peanuts as free appetizers, I would get really bad stomach cramps (this was before I was diagnosed in April 2007). I would feel like I was going to vomit and did so once or twice.
Thank you all so much for sharing your stories with me! I appreciate it. DD did fine yesterday, I kept her home from school just incase it was a stomach virus...which I know it wasnt. I contacted her allergist, who is out of the office until Monday, but one of his associates (who deals mainly with outdoor allergies) said he thinks it is not typical for her to react so many hours later, but it is not out of the question either. So her allergiest is to look over everything and get back to me after he returns. I also let her teacher know and she claimed that dd was complaining about her tummy before they had the party, yet DD said her tummy was fine until shortly after the party. So I really dont know, but I want to get to the bottom of it and I am going to be extra strict again with classroom snacks and parties. THank you again!!!
