Necco Candies

Here's a response I received from Necco Candies about their sweetheart candies. I find it confusing and wanted to share it with others. The confusing issue is that they say the 1oz boxes are safe, yet they contain a warning on them...

Thank you so much for contacting Necco for your allergy concerns.

Conversation Hearts are all made on dedicated lines and do not contain any nuts or nut derivatives. We do however recommend that if your child has severe allergies that you do not allow him/her to have the small cellophane pouches as these are packaged in numerous areas of the facility. We take every precaution to insure that the lines are free of any allergenic materials but this particular packaging configuration is the riskiest. The best option is the 1 oz boxes that are available almost anywhere.

If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again/

We have to inform the public we do have nuts and other Allergens in our facility but the products below are all done on dedicated lines, separate rooms.

And these do not contain any nuts or tree nuts, egg or dairy.

Necco Wafers, Conversation Hearts, Canada Mints, Gummie Coins ( Cherry & Cinnamon ), Juju raisin, Candy Buttons.

And I told you that all our products would have the Allergy warning, but the 1 oz. boxes are safe for anyone with allergy's to peanuts and tree nuts, dairy & eggs...

I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sincerely,

Theresa Denis

I don't get it either. All of the 1 oz boxes I've seen have an allergy warning for peanuts/tree nuts.

I don't get it either, and the language of the response seems oddly stilted, like it is cobbled together and not directly from a knowledgeable person. I sent e-mail inquiries to Necco 2 or 3 times in early February, and did not receive a response at all. So I have "written them off." My son was diappointed, as many friends were enjoying the conversation hearts.

One of our guys here at allerneeds.com has a severe peanut allergy and is always snacking on necco's and sweetharts.
