I am wanting to provide our school district with a truck load of 504 Plans. I don't think they understand that many, many school districts accommodate pa students, and we aren't asking for anything unreasonable.

If I can provide a copy of your 504 Plan to our school district (without your child's name and specific info., of course), please email it to me - my email address is in my profile. I would print some off of here, but I would rather not have pa.com on them, and want to have permission before I use them.

Thank you in advance!!!

When trying to show them that many school districs accomodate PA children, could you point out that the Massachusetts Department of Education formed a task force which put out guidelines for the entire Commonwealth?! I'm sure there's a link around here to those guidelines. They are pretty lengthy which would show how seriously Massachusetts takes the allergy.

We have told them about the Mass. DOE and offered them a copy of it, but they supposedly have it.
I asked the Assistant SI, if they needed us to provide anything else. He said "no". I replied, "So with the court cases, copies of the law, doctors letters, articles, information we have provided you, the school district still doesn't feel that more needs to be done to protect him?" His response, "We feel like we are doing as much as we can." I replied that I STRONGLY disagree with that statement, and he said that he understood that because I'm Drew's mom.

I don't have a 504 plan. I was advised against it becuase the school has not fought with any of my requests. I have an IHP. Do you want a copy of that? It's going through another revision this week but when that is finished,I can send it to you if you like. Also, the state of Washington has some guidelines, to, courtesty of Nathan's parents.

Yes. Even though it isn't a 504, it will still show our school what other schools are doing to accommodate pa students.
Thanks on the Washington tip - I'll start digging in that direction to see what I can find.
**This site is so awesome!! Thanks to everyone who has given us great support on and off the boards!!!**

We contacted a school board member about our situation. She said that she was aware of our situation, but had hoped that the administration would handle it in a way acceptable to us. She asked us to provide her with some information (and is getting more information from her attorney son), and part of what we provided to her were the 504 plans. We are waiting to hear from her (she is currently on vacation, but said that she would review our stack of information while she was gone). She will be back sometime the day of the next school board meeting - she will let us know what time as soon as she knows for sure. We will either present our situation to the board (if she is back in time for the meeting) or she will address it with the SI directly (if she doesn't get back in time for the meeting).
So, she has asked us to sit tight and wait for her. For right now, we are comfortable with that - I feel like we have exhausted meetings with the administration.
Thanks for asking!! I think the plans that were provided to us - and we provided to her - clearly show what other districts are doing for pa students...and that we are not being unreasonable.

Hello! I am new to PA.Com and I am wondering what exactly is a 504 plan???
I have a just turned 4 yr old son, Garrett, that has a severe allergy to peanuts. His preschool is wonderful and has a NO peanut/peanut product rule in place. the children are not even allowed to have other snacks that are manufactured on equipment that processes peanut products. We are very happy/comfortable there.
However, I am worried about public school next year. If Garrett even smells peanuts, he'll have a reaction.
Thanks!
Charity
