Safe Taco Spice Mix

Hi everyone I know since the cumin recall it has been difficult to find Safe taco spice mixes. I just wanted to share that McCormick taco spices mixes are safe. This is the email they sent me and I feel very safe in continuing our use of their products. ----------

No McCormick products are affected by the recent cumin recalls due to peanut contamination. This includes all ground cumin, cumin seed, and seasonings that contain cumin like Taco Seasoning Mix and Chili Powder. We have measures in place to prevent contamination of our ingredients. McCormick and our strategic suppliers purchase only whole cumin seed and inspect every lot for foreign material and extraneous matter. No peanut pieces or shell fragments have been found in shipment inspections of our whole cumin seed. Additionally, we do not produce or handle any peanut materials in our Hunt Valley facility where our cumin is processed.

Yay! This makes me really happy. We made chicken tacos the other night and my son LOVED them. But he had a mild reaction to it. Turns out my husband added a tiny bit of cumin (thankfully I was almost out and he didn't know where the big bottle was. I checked and the brand was recalled 2 weeks earlier according to the FDA and has since been thrown away) along with the Ortega seasoning mixes, which I am pretty sure aren't safe either. Luckily it was just a couple hives and the poop changed. Since he loved them so much, I am really excited to hear there is a safe mix out there!

yah we use the McCormick original taco seasoning mix and my son (who is PA) has never had a reaction to it. From the research I did a while back, I thought I read that McCormick doesn't make any spices with peanut flour at all. So there's no chance for cross contamination... At least that's what I remember reading. So I always use McCormick seasonings and stay away from Lawry's.
