I'm looking for a great product that can keep DD's lunch warm and is easy for a 6 yr old to open. She is an incredibly picky eater and doesn't eat sandwiches of any kind. She doesn't like cheese, so cheese and crackers are out. I just want her to eat enough at school to keep her focused. I have a feeling her lunch is going to end up being a few bites of yogurt, fruit and some crackers. She'll eat more when she gets home. She'd like to take pasta to school, so if I can pack it and keep it warm, that would be a huge help.

This is her 1st year having lunch at school (allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, avoiding egg--possibly outgrew egg allergy, some melons).

I don't want to buy one that doesn't work. I saw Landsend has one (2 for $15) and then a matching lunch bag with a warm compartment for the thermos (separate from the cold compartment). Anyone have experience with the Landsend one?

Thanks!
Nicole (trying to plan ahead so I can find this stuff before the 1st week of school )

We have several sizes of Thermos brand stainless steel ones. They do need to be preheated with hot water, or use HOT food, but work very well.
Use a size that just fits the amount of food you're sending - food gets cold faster if it is not full to start with.
(I have a wide elastic band around mine - to keep an old spoon or fork attached.)

These are perect! My local allergy support group got together a bulk order - which brought the cost down to $14 each. You get varried colors when you order in bulk.
I can not wait to get ours!

Oh...and I got the same Land's End catalog...I *think* the Lap Top Lunch box will fit in the bottom of the Land's End one.

I just got several Thermos brand ones at Target. They came in a variety of themes - Barbie, Hello Kitty, Cars, etc. None of my kids eat sandwiches, and PA dd lives off of ramen noodles and spaghettios during the school year!

Thanks for all of the suggestions...
LoriJo-does the Hello Kitty type keep the food warm? I saw that at Target tonight and I was wondering if it would actually stay warm. My DD will be eating pasta every day, I suspect. She added one suggestion tonight: "Hot Cocoa"--very nutritious and filling--ugh!
The Landsend one (the one that will fit the thermos and keep it in a separate compartment from the cold) looks pretty big. I don't want it to overpower DD but I do want her drink/fruit to stay cold and her pasta to stay warm. The Landsend bag will come to $50 (for the bag and 2 thermos)
I'll buy a couple at Target and try them out at home.
Thanks,
Nicole

My daughter has been taking soup to school for lunch for 3 years now in a Thermos brand thermos from Target. The first time a made her lunch I figured that I better heat up the soup extra hot at 8 am so it sould be ok at 12 noon. She came home and said that the soup was too hot to eat, therefore I now just heat it up exactly how hot it should be. In kindergarden she needed help opening it up, after that she was fine on her own (unless dad makes her lunch and screws the cap on too tight!)

My Dd has been taking hot and cold lunches to school for 3 years now. I don't bother with a two compartment lunchbox - have you seen the small amount of space on the school tables - there isn't room to open all that stuff! - and the fact that the kids have to eat lunch in less time than a snack!!! (OK - mini rant over!) Need more time in the classroom - PLEASE!!! (OK - I'm really done now!)
I have had no problem packing her lunchbox with hot and cold things. I put her Thermos on one end and the cold pack on the other end. Cold stays next to the cold pack and neutral (cookies, crackers, pretzels, applesauce, etc) goes in the middle.
Her hot food stays hot and her cold food stays cold.
I too have overheated her food wanting it to stay hot and she has complained that it was way to hot to eat! Got to love Thermos!

I have not actually used the Thermos brand one's yet. I just got them a few weeks ago, and school won't start for another month. I can say that I grew up with a Thermos brand thermos and loved it. I have to say I lived off spaghettios as a child myself (can't see how now, they are disgusting!)
I do like the size of these I got. Everything else I looked at was bigger and deeper. I just need enough for a child size serving.
