Question of the Week: Answered!
Every week, answers one of the questions posted in our community.
Our Answer:
Thank you for your question. It is very exciting to travel to new places but, understandably, a food allergy can cause some stress. Fortunately, there are a few ways to address the concerns that come up in a new environment.
Before you arrive at your destination, it’s important to think about on-flight safety as well. Notify the airline ahead of time about your child’s food allergy. Bring your own snacks and some antibacterial wipes for the seat in case any allergens are left over. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to food allergy safety. You can see more tips for flying with a food allergy here.
Traveling somewhere new can be stressful if you are not too familiar with the location and culture. Before you head out to your destination, do some research on the cuisine of the area to see if any allergens are present in popular meals. Again, bringing your own snacks can be really helpful — especially if your options for allergen-free meals and snacks are slim. You can see more tips on traveling to international destinations here.
You can also call the hotel where you are staying ahead of time to let them know about your child’s food allergy. This way, they can prepare accordingly for your meals at the hotel. Atlantis Resort, for example, caters to guests’ needs when it comes to food allergies by allowing guests to speak with the Chef’s Office. You can find out more about their policies here.
As usual, make sure to carry an auto-injector in case of emergency. Consider reviewing the proper use of an auto-injector with other members of your family. It’s important that everyone knows how to properly use on if an anaphylaxis occurs. For tips on reviewing methods, click here.

We own a property over at Atlantis Bahamas and we have a PN/TN allergic daughter. They are wonderful with food allergies, and any chef at any restaurant on Atlantis Property or in Marina Village will personally cook for the child and advise you of what they can and cannot have! You should NOT be worried!
Good luck!

I flew to the Bahamas with my wife, our peanut alergy daughter who was 17 stayed home. I was shocked that delta still opened and served 300 packets of peanuts so avoid them.
i told the captain about the dangers and he said "dont eat em"
The stewardess informed me that they made an emergency landing last week due to a child picking up traces and going into shock.
Any way avoid this backward airline
