Does anyone know the length of time that peanut butter or oil residue can stay on a surface if not properly cleaned? I am trying to gather some information for my son's school.

I don't know an actual researched number, but the first reaction my son had at 1.5 years old was from a marker that had peanut butter left on it a couple years prior by my older son's sticky fingers... THose markers had been put away and not used and I got them out, DS put them in his mouth and wa la... developed hives within minutes... I tasted the side of the marker.. I could see something on the side and it was peanut butter.
