Another PA.com member forwarded me this information regarding Kinder Eggs and asked if I could post it here:-
"But Kinder (pronounced as in kindergarten and meaning "children" in German) can't be sold legally here because the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the toy is a choking hazard. The Food and Drug Administration also objects, deeming the thumb-sized plastic capsule that contains the little toy an illegal, "embedded" nonfood item. "

It's usually a little puzzle to be put together. A friend of mine who does military service brought me a couple of them several years ago. the "egg" is about 1 1/2 inches long, so you can imagine how small the toy peices would be. I got a dancing cactus and 2 monkeys on see-saws. They are very cute but not kid friendly at all.

Gee, when I first learned of Kinder Eggs, I thought the very same thing--sounded like a liability to me! I'm surprised that they're not banned everywhere, even though my kids think they're so fun!
I don't often buy Kinder eggs for my children because the toys require assembly, despite their size, and that requires another adult other than me to do so
It will be on my never ending list of things to check in the grocery store (I still have to check for safe couscous for someone in Canada who asked) to see if there is a warning on them for a certain age, i.e., not recommended for children under three or something.
I know that the toys are actually considered collectibles. Found this out when I was working in an antique store three summers ago in the one horse town.
My MIL used to get them for the kids all of the time because one of her neighbours worked where they made them, or imported them.
Personally, for me, I've never liked the waxy chocolate of them, but the kids always do enjoy them.

This is something I felt I *should* clarify, don't know if it really needed clarification or not, but I'll do so regardless. Stands for all of my posts that I have made on behalf of another PA.com member or saying that another PA.com member had sent me the information.
I receive a lot of great links to articles and other information, as I'm sure a lot of us do. Often times, when I receive it, I will ask the person who sent it to me if they had posted it on PA.com (if they are still posting). If they haven't, I strongly urge them to post the information themselves, but if they don't feel like it, for whatever reason, I ask permission to post it on their behalf.
That's why, in a LOT of threads I start, you will see that I say, another PA.com member has sent me this information.
Then, there are members that aren't posting on the board anymore, for whatever reason(s) and they send me what I think is great information as well. I will e-mail them back and ask their permission to post the information on the board. Obviously because they're not posting anymore, they don't want me to say, so and so gave me this information, so I just say another PA.com member.
Within the last couple of weeks, williamsmummy had sent me a couple of links and/or articles that I thought were quite good and I asked her if she had posted them here, which she hadn't because she wasn't feeling well. Again, I asked her permission to post them, and because she is still actively posting, I did say that williamsmummy had given me permission to post whatever it was (additives in food article, BBC information re schools).
I was just contacted off-the-board (which is fine) by someone asking if a specific member had asked me to post the Kinder Egg information. It made sense to me why the person would think it was the PA.com member they were looking for/inquiring about.
But it wasn't that member. It was someone else who, again, for whatever reason(s) is not posting on the board, very kindly sent me information so that I could post it here and we would know why Americans don't have Kinder eggs. I never knew that 'til yesterday.
Sorry, just wanted to be clear. I know that I do do it quite a bit and certainly no one has ever questioned this practice of mine in the past, but I just wanted to be clear. There are a lot of people that choose not to post. If I'm fortunate enough, they send me great information. I post it here and do say it came from another PA.com member so that credit will not go where credit is not due (i.e., to me).
Best wishes!

Cindy,
That's so nice that so many PA.com members are close enough with you that they send you the information for you to post. It says volumes about you!! Thanks for sharing the information! Take care.
Oh, PA Parent, please don't misunderstand. I didn't mean for it to sound as though so many people are in contact with me off-the-board and I'm so popular. That was not my intention. My apologies.
I have been a member for four years now and I have established a lot of off-the-board contact and even people that I may not be in touch with regularly will still send me different things that they find that they think may be of interest to me.
Of course, I think if the thing if of interest to me, it's probably of interest to a lot of other members here and that's why I always ask for permission to post such great material.
It's also through other members here and what they post here that I have been able to let other PA.com members, no longer posting, say know about the CSI episode re PA (which was quite good IMHO, and yet not posted originally about by me) and just stuff like that.
No, I don't really think it says anything about who or what I am. I'm simply a member of PA.com. I can remember the very first person I was in contact with off-the-board here. I can remember also the second person.
I believe it does happen to all of us. A lot of times friendships develop certainly, which is wonderful because we all have that *one* thing in common, but even if it means I've been added to another mailing list or I have someone else to add to mine, well, that's great too.
But no, I didn't mean to give the impression, by any means, that I was special in any way for people to be sending me information.
Oh, and the other thing would be that anyone who does know me (even just on the board here) knows that I never go into lurk mode, so if they have, for whatever reason(s) and they have information they want posted on the board, they know that I'll gladly post it.
I'm not saying that I have not been blessed. I have. But I am certainly not special in that way.
Best wishes!

A mom in my son's preschool class is going to be bringing back Kinder Eggs from Germany for the entire class next week.
Can anyone tell me if they are still considered safe for PN and TN allergies?
Thanks-
Jaime
Ajsmama, yes, they are. In fact, I have some in my cupboard that I keep sneaking.
Here's there web-site:

Interestingly, I found a place where Americans can order KinderSurprise - or just the toys.

GREAT - THANKS!
It doesn't matter that these ones were made in Germany and not in Canada does it?
Jaime
I've heard that the ones from Germany are not safe.
