Thought I'd drop in and say hi to all living with PA. I see a lot of posts from parents, but not a whole lot from or about adults who are still dealing with PA.

I was about to the point where I thought I'd outgrown the severity of my allergy, but last week discovered otherwise. So I'm here to find out more about the epi pen and how to handle restaurants who are, IMHO, irresponsible in the labeling of their menus. I'll be posting my entire story in the restaurant forum shortly.

Thanks to all...

Hi there and welcome,

I am a pa adult (allergic at 20), and there are quite a few others posting here, some who have been allergic all their lives and others like me who developed it as adults. I think you will find a lot of helpful information here, I certainly did.

Take care,

Michelle

Hello to "idrinkred" ... and welcome.

I'm another one who developed the allergy "later in life" ...

I was 42 when I developed the allergy to :-

+ peanuts + hazelnuts + cashew nuts + walnuts + almonds + and ... sesame!!

With that profile (the only ones for which I was tested), I made the decision to avoid ALL nuts & nut products.

FYI ... I live in the UK and used to be a real "omnivore".

Is your username a reflection of the type of wine you like??

Another adult on-set here. Peanuts and sesame seed are my poison.

As for how to *deal* with restaurants - I don't. In the entire city of Toronto I eat at one and only one restaurant. And dh and I were just discussing that there seems to be *something different* about the food, so I have to talk to them again to make sure it is still safe.

Hey Nick, you looking for a new drinking buddy?

BTW, idrinkred, you could also check the Adults forum - down near the bottom of the list of forums.

Welcome to the board.

Yes, as a matter of fact red wine is my favorite! While I was in Nashville last week my husband went to a charity event and got a magnum of a collectable cabernet. He said he wanted to surprise me with something special after my "ordeal". LOL I said "Don't encourage me to eat more peanut sauces!"

I did find the adults forum and will be checking that out. Wow, lots of good info here.

Called my doc today and asked for an epi-pen and they want to see me before they prescribe. Gosh, I hope they don't want to put me through a ton of tests to document what I've known for years. It's just as an adult, I've never had an encounter so there's no paper trail. Oh well.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
