Hi Kathyann--my boys are both PA and have never had any problems at the dentist. They both have had novacaine with no problem, the only thing I can think of is fluoride treatments, they come in different flavors and I would remind the dentist to check that out.

KATHYANN,
None that I am aware of?
If he has heart problems, I believe a pre-antibiotic before cleaning is necessary.

I, like everyone else, remind the dentist of the peanut allergy just in case there is an issue with the flavoring of toothpaste, etc...but it has not been an issue.
The beauty of the dentist is that it is the one place that they will most likely NOT offer your children candy/food/sweets!!!YAY!!!
good luck!

Funny you should mention this, Rebecca has allergies other than PA/TNA, so she brings her own toothpaste to the dentist. The stuff they use to polish teeth after a cleaning contains sorbitol and that contributes to migraines for her.

Hi,
All I know is that root canal work sometimes has a product which contains egg substance or egg based substance. Since my son is both PA and egg allergic, I've had to educate him on this for the future (hopefully he never has to go through that, though, UGH!!) But I also remind dentist and hygienist every time we walk in the door of his allergy. It never hurts (oops, maybe that's not the right word for the dentist 8-)

This has been very frustrating for us with regard to flouride treatments given at the dentist office. The dentist uses Oral B prouducts for their flouride treatments. When we called the company they could not guarantee a nut free product, so we didn't pursue the treatments. See attachment.
Dear Dr. Perez,
We received you questions regarding peanuts or tree nut products used in our fluoride gels and foams. I hope you fine the following information helpful.
Minute Foam:
Although none of the ingredients in this product contain intentionally added nuts or nut by-products, we cannot rule out that nuts or nut by-products may have been used during the manufacture or processing of the ingredients. Although none of the ingredients in this product contain intentionally added nuts or nut by-products, we cannot rule out that nuts or nut by-products may have been used during the manufacture or processing of the ingredients.
As for the Oral-B Minute Gel, we will research this information and get
back to you as soon as possible. If you have other questions regarding
specific product ingredients, please just send me a listing of the Oral-B product and we will research for you.
Thanks for your patience.
Kind Regards,

Took both kids, (allergies between them include Peanut, tree nut, latex sensitive, soy, corn, peas, dyes, some artificial sweeteners, dd is also allergic to benadryl and motrin, and I don't know what it is in the flouride supplements that the ped tries to give them, but liquid or tablet gives them a rash) to the dentist for the first time this fall. Told them of multiple allergies ahead of time, came equipped with the neb as well for ds asthma just in case. They simply checked their teeth, polished with our toothpaste, and once the dentist (nice lady just moved here from Maine) took a look at my backpack and neb, she said she didn't feel we needed to push the flouride treatments since their teeth looked good. I was so nervous before hand, and possibly I lucked out, but all went smoothly.

I just took the kids to the dentist this afternoon. They were just finishing up lunch and it got me thinking about what they had eaten, do they wash their hands afterward?
I know they wear gloves but they have to touch them to put them on. I spoke to her about the allergy and sure enough, she had just eaten a Reese's peanutbutter cup. She assured me that she would wash her hands thoroughly.
She seemed to fully understand the allergy but as my son was coming out of the office she offered him a nut filled biscotti! Oh well! Sigh.
He is old enough to know what to eat but still!
