I don't know if you got a response to this elsewhere on the board but there is not too much free ice cream around. There are different levels of comfort for different people. I feel comfortable with Breyers vanilla while others do not. I also feel comfortable with McDonalds soft serve ice cream cones but not their blizzards. In general the problem with ice cream is cross contamination from shared machinery.
I know the Cindy found a safe ice cream cup from a company in Canada recently. I would suggest that you use the search feature here and search under "Ice Cream". You are sure to find a lot of information that way.
Also, many of us have our own ice cream machines and make our own ice cream. There are some very easy machines around.

I found out the hard way that the industry standard is to make a flavor, power-wash the line, then make the next, as needed. No dedicated lines, no warning.

We have always stuck with Chapman's after receiving the following e-mail from a trusted friend. Of course I e-mailed them as well and was told the same thing.
"Peanut and Nut Free lines: Chapman's Ice Cream is aware of allergic
reactions due to peanut/nut based ingredients in food products and has
dedicated selected lines to be made peanut/nut free. Chapman's Original, Light
and Checker Board 2 litre ice cream - a total of 27 flavours - are recommended
for those who suffer severe peanut/nut product allergies." "For more
information on other selected peanut/nut free lines, where to buy Chapman's
Ice Cream and much, much more, be sure to visit www.chapmans.on.ca.
