My name is Lisa and I have a three year old son named Brett that is allergic to peanuts among other things. I found out he was allergic to peanuts when he was 13 months and I gave him a tiny smear of peanut butter off the tip of my finger to see if he liked it. Within 15 minutes his face was covered with hives and his eyes started swelling shut. We gave him Benadryl and took him to the emergency room. We now carry his epi-pen and Benadryl with us every where. We are very cautious, but like everyone else in this situation we find that not all of the people we come in contact with take it seriously enough. We are very thankful for a good babysitter, Sunday school teacher and children's Bible study program leader. They all take it very seriously. Our biggest concern is starting him in a three morning a week preschool next year. They sound very willing to keep peanut butter out of the room on the days he is there, but we are their first experience with this. I found this websight while obtaining information I can print off and give them to help make the place secure. I am happy to find a place where I can learn from others' experiences!
