I have been posting in off topic about severe cat allergy. Our 5yo dd has had multiple reactions since her last allergy injection three wks ago. Today it was definately something on her salad. She and her 7yo brother both reacted after eating the salad. We tried a new dressing. I think that was it(Paul Newman oil and vinegar). They both had upper resp., flushing, red spots on face and appeared to be a little puffy in the face. Then it was 'throat feels funny, not enough room in it' complaining of boogers running down the throat. It sounds dramatic, but I have seen it much worse when epi was not a question. We followed the step by step approach given us by doc(anahist then prednisone). Problem is the steroids usually halt the reaction completely. Today their throats were still tight and still having some milder upper resp. stuff. Dr.s office had me give second or double dose of anihist. This did seem to give further relief. We then had to dose again with anahist and prednisone at bedtime in addition to regular meds of singular and zyrtec. I don't think I will ever be able to get to sleep tonight. I HATE it that this happens to them. I hate myself for trying the 'looked to be safe' salad dressing today without calling first. I worry they will completely loose trust in me for feeding them something that made them sick. I have been doing alot of complaining on here lately. It is such a stress relief to be able to write about our scary day. I keep trying to tell myself to be thankful. There are many much worse tradgedies children and their families have to deal with. It reminds me that every day with them is a gift from God. Hope everyone else is safe and well and sleeping peacefully tonight.

McMelon, hope everybody is feeling better today and that you managed to get some sleep. What was it in the dressing that you think caused the reaction? Are your kids pa only?
As far as the way you are feeling right now, Im kind of feeling the same way. Yes, our kids could have way worse things going on, but this is what they have. And it can be a real pain in the neck. And sometimes it just gets to us. Its hard to see your kids get sick, or not be able to have certain things. So dont apologize for how you feel.

McMelon - Are your kids allergic to walnuts? Paul Neuman makes a 'Light Raspberry and Walnut' dressing (with real walnuts). It's possible that flavor could have caused some cross contamination with the kind you bought.

I hope both your kids are doing better. We all do things and learn from them. Don't beat yourself up, you are doing all you can. Big Hugs! I did want to tell you that I think I remember reading somewhere on this site that all Paul Newman's products are not suppose to be safe for PA or TNA as per the company. You might want to do a search. I will try to find it if I can and reraise it for you.

I should have called the co. or checked here. We were in a hurry. You know how it goes, all 3 kids are starving and demanding fed instantly. The ingredients looked so simple. Yesterday the oldest asked me to read the package twice before we ate. I have started teaching him to read the labels. He gets stuck on the big words.
kjc, they were never tested for tna we just avoid it as well. That was most likely the culprit~cross contamin.
momma2boys, thanks for your sympathy again. Truth is, this really is overwhelming many days. I hate it my kids have to live with this. You gang in there too. I did get to sleep. It was stress relief to vent, here.
mom2nickie, thanks for your words of understanding. I'm sure it was the friggin' dressing. I want to hate Paul Newman right now! I know the whole thing was my fault not some celebrity out in CA. It sure would be nice to be able to knock out mr. peanut. thanks, melody

I contacted FAAN and the Newman's Own co. I remembered they alos had a handful of Brownberry (Arnold Foods Co. inc.)croutons. I didn't suspect these as I believe they have eaten them before and their is allergen labeling in the ingredients. Both co.s say they use fda cleaning standards but do not have desig. lines. I may be able to get the dressing tested. I will report what I find.
