I just wanted to let you all know that I called Wilton to ask about their meriange powder and it was made in the plant that has peanuts/nuts. The first lady I spoke with on the phone stated that the product was made overseas and she didn't know anything about dedicated lines etc. I asked to speak with her manager as I couldn't believe a big company like Wilton didn't even had a allergy statement for her to read to me.
The manager was very nice and knowledgable. She told me no that the plant was not overseas (the bottle even said made in USA) and that she has been to it. She said it was a 20,000 sq foot warehouse and that the peanut/nuts stuff were made on one side of the plant and the other stuff on the other side of the plant. She said it was not like the lines were three feet apart. She also said the lines were divided by dividers. She told me the meringe powder line was a dedicated line and there would never be a product labeled without nuts that was made on a nut free line, but let me know that they are in the same plant. (I recommend calling though on all products). She told me the piping gel was in the nut free plant.
Of course she told me that it was my decision and they couldn't guartee 100% nut free because there were nuts in the plant, but it sounded like they take precautions and she said that they clean lines throughly and she gave the example of their food coloring - stating that even a trace of a color on their food coloring lines would change the new color.
So, I don't know if anyone uses the cake decorating things from Wilton, but I am trying the meriange powder (I am so bad at spelling), it did not contain peanut products, but made in a plant with peanuts, but was on a dedicated line - and so far so good. I tried it with my son with a small sprinkle on his tongue before I made the icing.
I don't know about using the sprinkles etc - I wanted to see if anyone else has had experience lately with Wilton cake decorating supplies.
Thanks,
Andrea

I've used Wilton's paste colors and sprinkles without a problem.
