I anyone else dealing with corn allergy?

I know I just posted about finding foods that are safe for corn allergy? Is anyone dealing with this? I am so frustrated . I went on a corn allergy website and I am more confused now. I feel as if my son cannot eat anything .His allergist said to watch him and I don't think he has shown any reactiions before but he did test a 2 on it. He now also has wheat,egg , soy, orange and beef.. what does this kid eat?? sorry to rant but I need some help. thanks again < Kathy Ann

Do you have a membership over at kidswithfoodallergies.org? There are a lot of people there that are really knowledgable about corn allergies.
Corn allergies are a whole different kettle of fish... corn is in the vast majority of processed foods, medications, toiletries and even toilet paper.

We had corn allergy for awhile and luckily grew out if it. Delphi forums has a corn allergy link. This is a tough one but you can also outgrow it so keep positive. You will need to find a compounding pharmacy to compund simple meds for you such as tylenol. They can use honey to cover the taste up. You also need to add it to medicalert bracelet since some iv's have glucose which is corn based. Enjoylife foods has a corn free choco chip and it is easy to make candy with molds. There is also a corn free lollipop and organic sweet tarts that are on missroben.com that are free of corn. Missroben.com has a lot of corn free items. They also have a corn free shampoo and conditioner.
Corn is really hard.I am sorry about this but it is manageable. At one point my now 3 year old was allergic to 8 out of the 10 top allergens and then some. She is now down to 1 known allergy to wheat but we stay away from peanut and nuts due to her sister. Good luck and you may also want to look into an immune system builder to boost the immune system. Watch the vaccination ingredients too. Good luck and take deep breaths. I also do believe that there was 1 benadryl without a corn ingredient but you will have to ask them.

Yep, I'm dealing with a corn allergy. Corn has got to be the hardest allergen to avoid.
When I was a kid, I didn't really consider it an "allergy" as such . . . I just would be careful about how much corn I'd eat. Too much would = itchy throat. My tolerance level would vary.
I had always just thought that some sweet things make one's throat sting slightly (especially icing sugar!). . . now I realize that it was the corn.
But recently, the allergy got worse (I think it was because after I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy I started to eat *a lot* more corn. . .popcorn, corn flour). I've never had an anaphylactic reaction or anything, but a few kernels of corn now make my throat itchy. Plus sometimes I get hives--once my entire face turned red after eating a lot of cornbread. The allergy was confirmed through skin prick testing and through RAST testing (I'm "class II")
I toyed with the idea of trying to avoid corn *completely* to see if nasal rhinitis, etc. improved . . .but I've given up. My allergist thinks that it is okay for me to have the small amounts of corn that I'm getting since I'm not obviously reacting. . . he is fairly cautious about the whole thing, though. He doesn't want me to try anything *new* with corn in it outside of his office.
Current sources of corn: milk. there is corn oil in the vitamin A and D preparation. In Canada at least, it is now currently impossible to get milk that does not contain corn unless you get it straight from the cow.
salt. Iodized salt has dextrose which = corn sugar.
I do sometimes take antihistamines with corn starch. My vitamins do not *contain* corn starch, but the company informs me that it is not corn free.
Also, someone who posts on allergicliving.com and who is dealing with a *severe* corn allergy has discovered that meat (plain meat) is treated with citric acid as a preservative. Citric acid = corn.
I'm not sure whether I really need to avoid ascorbic acid . . . but it is from corn so I do. And I think it makes my throat sting ever so slightly. So I buy applesauce at health food type stores (like Whole Foods) without any corn added.
I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Also, while there are not a lot of people dealing with corn allergy on the allergicliving.com site, there is one person who has done *a lot* of research who has tips for avoidance. Also, the moderator recently posted a website with a list of a lot of compounding pharmacies in Canada and in the US that might be helpful.
A few recipe tips I can think of---I make pudding with tapioca starch instead of corn starch. (It *is* a bit gluey, but I like it. Of course, there's always regular tapioca pudding.)
I really miss popcorn . . . the closest I've come to popcorn flavour is Lundberg's basmati rice with lots of butter and salt. (hey, I try!)
I mentioned to my allergist that I really wasn't sure which corn additives are considered safe for the corn allergic (I was running into trouble with meds for a procedure for which I was scheduled). He said that no one really knows.

Thanks for that link! I have an interest in the politics of food. It *is* ridiculous how much of our food (and medication) has corn-derived ingredients. That program begins to explain why.
That show on what happens to our meat before it gets to the table is shocking, isn't it? I heard on the radio (CBC--canadian broadcasting corporation) that the first medical records on a disease like alzheimer's first showed up in 19thc Germany . . . which was also the first country to feed animal byproducts to other animals. Scary!
I can't be a vegetarian due to major issues with legumes, nuts, and seeds and things, but I try to buy free range animals that are grain fed and haven't been given antibiotics.

miss robens website is a great place to get corn free baking powder and corn free powdered sugared as well as some other corn free items -- it was extremely tough when my son was diagnosed and i felt like my cupboards were bare -- now they are jam packed and with healthier stuff -- it takes time and a lot of label reading!
