Dumb but lucky...
Why did I think that chestnuts are not nuts???
Our Christmas Log (home made too!) was with chestnuts and I gave it to my kids!!!
Thankfully nothing bad happened (that's where the luck part figures in...) In theory, my son is not allergic to nuts, but still.
Sigh. I can be so stupid at times.
I have thought the same thing!!
It's funny the things that can slip by. At least there was no harm done.
My son wouldn't try Grape Nuts cereal because of the name. It was hard to convince him there were no nuts in it!
"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire....." darthcleo, the only reason that chestnuts even came to my mind as being a nut is when I read about our American friends going into malls and being greeted by boiled or roasting peanuts outside and the only nut I can think of ever having seen roasted and never having tried is the chestnut. I don't see it done where I live now, but it was quite common in Toronto.
I'm glad that your children are okay. With the excitement of this season, I really think it's easy to slip on some things. I didn't actually know that aside from chestnuts roasting that chestnuts were actually used in any baked goods or anything.
And it's two Christmas recipes I have that I have had to eliminate tree nuts from - cashews and sliced almonds that would *normally* be in our Christmas meal.
I'm glad everyone is okay.
